Article Synopsis
  • Advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs) have a poor response to all existing therapies, making effective treatment a significant challenge for patients with late-stage disease.
  • Researchers discovered a new chemo-induced signaling network that contributes to chemoresistance in PDAC, highlighting Yap1 in cancer cells and Cox2 in stromal fibroblasts as critical components.
  • Co-targeting both Yap1 and Cox2 markedly increased the effectiveness of Gemcitabine treatment in mice, and patient data suggested that combining statins and Cox2 inhibitors with Gemcitabine could enhance survival rates for PDAC patients.

Older adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) or early cognitive decline during the subjective cognitive decline (SCD) stage may exhibit neuropsychiatric symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and subtle cognitive impairment. The clinicopathological features and biological mechanisms of MDD differ from those of SCD among older adults; these conditions thus require different treatment strategies. This study enrolled 82 participants above 50 years old with normal cognitive levels from the communities to examine biomarker-behavior correlations between MDD (n = 23) and SCD (n = 23) relative to a normal control (NC) group (n = 36).

Article Synopsis
  • Thyroid cancer rates have risen significantly among Taiwanese females, with age-adjusted rates increasing from 7.37 to 20.53 per 100,000 people between 1995-1999 and 2015-2019, respectively.
  • The study found younger females showed the highest increase in incidence rates, particularly in the 50-54 age group, with a notable trend linked to later birth cohorts.
  • Researchers suggested that overdiagnosis might largely explain this trend, alongside a significant negative correlation between thyroid cancer incidence and fertility rates, highlighting a need for further investigation into these relationships.

Background: Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) is an early stage of dementia linked to Alzheimer's disease pathology. White matter changes were found in SCD using diffusion tensor imaging, but there are known limitations in voxel-wise tensor-based methods. Fixel-based analysis (FBA) can help understand changes in white matter fibers and how they relate to neurodegenerative proteins and multidomain behavior data in individuals with SCD.

A causal relationship exists among the aging process, organ decay and disfunction, and the occurrence of various diseases including cancer. A genetically engineered mouse model, termed or (K74R), carrying mutation on the well-conserved sumoylation site of the hematopoietic transcription factor KLF1/EKLF has been generated that possesses extended lifespan and healthy characteristics, including cancer resistance. We show that the healthy longevity characteristics of the (K74R) mice, as exemplified by their higher anti-cancer capability, are likely gender-, age-, and genetic background-independent.
