The DNA adducts formed by the alkenylbenzene natural products, safrole (SF) and methyleugenol (MEG) are primarily attributed to their reported carcinogenic properties. Herein, we report a concise strategy to access -Ac-SF/MEG-dA phosphoramidites, which were selectively incorporated into DNA oligonucleotides by solid-phase DNA synthesis. The replication studies using human polymerases hpolκ and hpolη showed that both polymerases replicate these adducts error-free, which indicates that these polymerases do not contribute to the adduct-induced mutagenicity.

In this work, we investigate anharmonic vibrational polaritons formed due to strong light-matter interactions in an optical cavity between radiation modes and anharmonic vibrations beyond the long-wavelength limit. We introduce a conceptually simple description of light-matter interactions, where spatially localized cavity radiation modes couple to localized vibrations. Within this theoretical framework, we employ self-consistent phonon theory and vibrational dynamical mean-field theory to efficiently simulate momentum-resolved vibrational-polariton spectra, including effects of anharmonicity.

Establishing energy correlations among different metals can accelerate the discovery of efficient and cost-effective catalysts for complex reactions. Using a recently introduced coordination-based model, we can predict site-specific metal binding energies (Δ ) that can be used as a descriptor for chemical reactions. In this study, we have examined a range of metals including Ag, Au, Co, Cu, Ir, Ni, Os, Pd, Pt, Rh, and Ru and found linear correlations between predicted Δ and adsorption energies of CH and O (Δ and Δ ) at various coordination environments for all the considered metals.

This study presents a detailed density functional theory (DFT) investigation into the mechanism and energetics of C-H activations catalyzed by bioinspired Fe(IV)O complexes, particularly in the presence of -hydroxy mediators. The findings show that these mediators significantly enhance the reactivity of the iron-oxo complex. The study examines three substrates with varying bond dissociation energies─ethylbenzene, cyclohexane, and cyclohexadiene─alongside the [Fe(IV)O(N4Py)] complex.
