Periodontitis is an inflammatory condition that affects the tooth-supporting structures, triggered by the host's immune response toward the bacterial deposits around the teeth. Annexin A1 (AnxA1), a vital member of the annexin superfamily, is known for its diverse physiological functions, particularly its anti-inflammatory and anti-senescence properties. We hypothesized that AnxA1 has a protective effect against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory responses and cellular damage in periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs).

As a founding member of the Src family of kinases, Src has been confirmed to participate in the regulation of immune responses, integrin signaling, and motility. Ducks are usually asymptomatic carriers of RNA viruses such as Newcastle disease virus and avian influenza virus, which can be deadly to chickens. The beneficial role of Src in modulating the immune response remains largely unknown in ducks.

The proliferation and death of granulosa cells (GCs) in poultry play a decisive role in follicular fate and egg production. The follicular fluid (FF) contains a variety of nutrients and genetic substances to ensure the communication between follicular cells. Exosomes, as a new intercellular communication, could carry and transport the proteins, RNA, and lipids to react on GCs, which had been found in FF of various domestic animals.

Biochar-assisted vermicomposting can significantly accelerate soil DEHP degradation, but little information is known about the underlying mechanisms as different microspheres exist in soil ecosystem. In this study, we identified the active DEHP degraders in biochar-assisted vermicomposting by DNA stable isotope probing (DNA-SIP) and surprisingly found their different compositions in pedosphere, charosphere and intestinal sphere. Thirteen bacterial lineages (Laceyella, Microvirga, Sphingomonas, Ensifer, Skermanella, Lysobacter, Archangium, Intrasporangiaceae, Pseudarthrobacter, Blastococcus, Streptomyces, Nocardioides and Gemmatimonadetes) were responsible for in situ DEHP degradation in pedosphere, whereas their abundance significantly changed in biochar or earthworm treatments.

Marine biofouling is one of the technical bottlenecks restricting the development of the global marine economy. Among the commercial self-polishing antifouling coatings, cuprous oxide is an irreplaceable component because of its efficiency and broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. However, one of the biggest obstacles to achieving long-term antifouling is the "initial burst and final decay" of cuprous oxide in the coating.

Atrazine accumulation in agricultural soil is prone to cause serious environmental problems and pose risks to human health. Vermicomposting is an eco-friendly approach to accelerating atrazine biodegradation, but the roles of earthworm cast in the accelerated atrazine removal remains unclear. This work aimed to investigate the roles of earthworm cast in promoting atrazine degradation performance by comprehensively exploring the change in atrazine metabolites and bacterial communities.

The intensive and long-term use of atrazine in agriculture has resulted in serious environmental pollution and consequently endangered ecosystem and human health. Soil microorganisms play an important role in atrazine degradation. However, their degradation efficiencies are relatively low due to their slow growth and low abundance, and manure amendment as a practice to improve soil nutrients and microbial activities can solve these problems.

It was reported that the main obstacle of LiZrO as high-temperature CO absorbents is the very slow CO sorption kinetics, which are ascribed to the gradual formation of compact zirconia and carbonate shells along with inner unreacted lithium zirconate cores; accordingly, the "sticky" Li and O ions have to travel a long distance through the solid shells by diffusion. We report here that three-dimensional interconnected nanoporous LiZrO exhibiting ultrafast kinetics is promising for CO sorption. Specifically, nanoporous LiZrO (LZ-NP) exhibited a rapid sorption rate of 10.
