Phytotoxic effects of polyethylene microplastics combined with cadmium on the photosynthetic performance of maize (Zea mays L.).

Microplastics (MPs) and cadmium (Cd) has attracted increasing attention due to their combined toxicity to terrestrial vegetation. Photosynthesis which utilizes light energy to synthesize organic substances is crucial for crop production. However, the plant photosynthetic response to the joint toxicity of MPs and Cd is still unknown.
