Axial coordination engineering has emerged as an effective strategy to regulate the catalytic performance of metal-N-C materials for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the ORR mechanism and activity changes of their active centers modified by axial ligands are still unclear. Here, a comprehensive investigation of the ORR on a series of FeN-L moieties (L stands for an axial ligand) is performed using advanced density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Article Synopsis
  • Macrocycle-based dual-metal-site metal-organic frameworks are promising catalysts, but their catalytic activity connected to metal node modifications isn't fully understood.
  • Using first-principles calculations, researchers studied M-CoOAPc materials (with metals like Co, Ni, and Cu) and explained experimental observations in oxygen reduction reactions, noting a discrepancy with Co-CoOAPc's activity.
  • The study highlighted that this discrepancy is due to HO adsorption on Co nodes and suggested the incorporation of other metals, like Fe, can enhance catalytic performance, achieving a theoretical half-wave potential of 0.82 V.

Pathogen infections impose severe challenges in clinical practice, especially for patients infected with antibiotic-resistant microbes. The thioredoxin (Trx) system in Gram-positive bacteria serves as an ideal antimicrobial target for novel medicine design due to the structural differences from corresponding system in mammals. However, a backup thiol-dependent antioxidant glutathione (GSH) system limits the effectiveness of drugs in many Gram-negative bacteria.

Because the distributed storage system is based on network technology, it can store data in multiple independent low-cost physical storage devices, and it is also suitable for large-capacity storage, so it has become more and more popular. Today, common applications of distributed storage systems include cloud storage services, data center storage services, and P2P storage services. Typical ones are GFS, HDFS, OceanStore, and Dynamo.

Chronic wound healing, impeded by bacterial infections and drug resistance, poses a threat to global human health. Antibacterial phototherapy is an effective way to fight microbial infection without causing drug resistance. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a class of highly crystalline functional porous carbon-based materials composed of light atoms (, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and borane), showing potential applications in the biomedical field.

In this paper the contents of rosmarinic acid, salvianolic acid B, crytotanshinone, tanshinone II(A) in samples of different original processed Salvia Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma were determined by HPLC. Different processing methods have varied influences on four active ingredients in Salvia Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. Sun-drying reduced the content of crytotanshinone, tanshi-none II(A) and rosmarinic acid, integralsamples were better than those cut into segments.

Wild or cultivated Glycyrrhiza uralensis FISCHER (G. uralensis) are the main source of licorice, and they contain the similar compounds, such as the triterpenoid saponins and flavonoids, but above two kinds of the components contents are low level in the cultivated licorice. To produce the high quality cultivated licorices, researchers studied the affecting factors about the compounds producing in the plant of licorice, and then found that the growth years, genetic differences and water deficit are all the important factors.
