Article Synopsis
  • STEAP3 is found to be significantly upregulated in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and plays a role in cancer cell proliferation and oxidative stress.
  • Silencing STEAP3 in LUSC cells leads to decreased cell viability and increased markers of oxidative stress and ferroptosis.
  • The interaction between STEAP3 and EGFR suggests that targeting this pathway could be a potential therapeutic strategy for LUSC, as EGFR overexpression can counteract the negative effects of STEAP3 silencing.

The clinical therapeutics of cervical cancer is limited due to the drug resistance and metastasis of tumor. As a novel target for antitumor therapy, ferroptosis is deemed to be more susceptible for those cancer cells with resistance to apoptosis and chemotherapy. Dihydroartemisinin (DHA), the primary active metabolites of artemisinin and its derivatives, has exhibited a variety of anticancer properties with low toxicity.

Canagliflozin (Cana), an anti-diabetes drug belongs to sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor, is gaining interest because of its extra cardiovascular benefits. Ferroptosis is a new mode of cell death, which can promote the occurrence of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). Whether Cana can alleviate DCM by inhibiting ferroptosis is the focus of this study.
