Inland water ecosystems are unique, whereby water level changes can lead to variance in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The GHG circulation intensity of inland waterbodies is high, so different water depths affect the temperature sensitivity of greenhouse gases, and have different cooling effects on CO storage and warming effects on CH emissions, being a typical GHG conversion channel. This study systematically reveals geographical GHG emission patterns from inland waterbodies and GHG impact mechanisms from regional waterbodies.

Global changes have led to alterations in phytoplankton community structure and dynamics in aquatic environments. However, limited information is available on the comprehensive impacts of global changes on phytoplankton communities along river systems affected by anthropogenic activities. This study explores how anthropogenic pressures and climate change affect phytoplankton community transitions and induce harmful algal blooms by employing field surveys and a 40-year historical data analysis along China's Yangtze River source-mainstem-estuary continuum.

The evasion of carbon dioxide (CO) from lakes significantly influences the global carbon equilibrium. Amidst global climatic transformations, the role of Qingzang Plateau (QZP) lakes as carbon (C) sources or sinks remains a subject of debate. Furthermore, accurately quantifying their contribution to the global carbon budget presents a formidable challenge.

Cytoplasmic Dynein is a multiple-subunit macromolecular motor protein involved in the transport process of cells. The Dynein intermediate chain (DIC) is one of the subunits of Dynein-1. In our previous studies, we showed that Pt-DIC may play an important role in the nuclear deformation of spermiogenesis in .

Hazards associated with microplastics (MPs) and the pollutants they absorb in freshwater lake ecosystems have become a hot research topic in academia. In this study, in order to investigate potential affiliated MP hazards, lake MP samples were collected from a typical subtropical freshwater lake system in China (Poyang Lake) during the dry season (here, you should show the specific months) to explore their potential toxic element (PTE) response (i.e.

is a bacterium that can cause infections in pigs and humans. Although oxidative stress is common occurrence during bacterial growth and infection, the regulation networks of under oxidative stress remain poorly understood. To address this, we utilized RNA-Seq to reveal the transcriptional landscape of in response to HO stress.

is a zoonotic pathogen causing meningitis and bacteremia in animals and humans. A lack of accurate and convenient detection methods hinders preventing and controlling diseases caused by . Additionally, there is limited knowledge about its pathogenicity and antimicrobial resistance characteristics, as there are only three complete genome sequences available.

Lake carbon (C) cycling is a key component of the global C cycle and associated C source and sink processes. The partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO) and carbon dioxide (CO) exchange flux at the lake-air interface (F) are controlled by complex physical, chemical, and biological mechanisms. It would be instructively significant to determine whether hydrological processes drive conversion shifts between C sources and sinks in floodplain-lake systems.

In terrestrial ecosystems, carbon (C) transportation and C pool transformation processes both occur at the land-river-estuary continuum. Moreover, C budget and C balance processes are generally critical in achieving the C neutrality of terrestrial ecosystems. This study analyzes key C transportation processes at multiple interfaces that collectively constitute the land-river-estuary continuum, discusses C transportation and sedimentation processes at the land-river interface, and reveals aquatic plant C sequestration coupling processes and associated productivity.

Particulate organic carbon (POC) is an important component of lake organic carbon (C) pools, of which different factors drive vertical distributions and sources. This study used the dual stable isotope (δC and δN) approach to investigate vertical POC sources and drivers in a large floodplain lake system. Findings showed that POC composition gradually changed from endogenous dominant to exogenous dominant sequentially from the surface layer to the bottom layer of Lake Poyang.

Streptococcus pasteurianus, an underreported opportunistic pathogen, is considered an increasingly recognized cause of meningitis and bacteremia in many animals and humans worldwide. However, except for some epidemiological studies, there is no report about the gene-deletion mutagenesis, virulence factors, reservoir niches or animal infection models for this pathogen. In this study, we first isolated an S.

After carbon (C) enters a lake through surface runoff and atmospheric deposition, most of it, being influenced by the environmental conditions of the basin, is deposited into lake sediment, thus, becoming one of the most important C pools in the world. Therefore, it is critical to understand sediment response characteristics under the context of increasing C concentrations in lake water. Based on the changes of sediment C concentration at different depths in Poyang Lake, belonging to China's large floodplain-lake system, we revealed the sediment C short-term response characteristics to changes in lake water C concentrations as well as their associated impacting factors.

In this study, a cascaded watershed system in the Poyang Lake area was selected as the study site, which ranged from the primary tributaries to the lake area (Xiangxi River→Jiazhu River→Ganjiang River→Poyang Lake). The aims of the study were to monitor the P wet deposition and runoff process in the Poyang Lake area and discuss the P transport characteristics at the multi-scale watershed and its impact on phytoplankton community structure in the Poyang Lake. The results showed that the P concentration in the Poyang Lake area exhibited significant seasonal changes.

The transport of trace metals in river-lake systems can potentially increase or decrease primary productivity in some basins and subsequently affect the carbon cycle of watersheds. In this study, we investigated a variety of trace metal concentrations and transport flux in the Poyang Lake basin during four seasons. Results show that the Gan River transports 78% of selenium (Se) and 42% of lead (Pb) into Poyang Lake each year, resulting in heavy metal pollution dominated by Pb and Se in 30%-75% of its water.
