Tc-99m MDP bone scintigraphy of myositis as a manifestation of chronic graft-versus-host disease after non-myeloablative peripheral stem cell transplantation.

A 27-year-old man developed polymyositis as a manifestation of chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after non-myeloablative peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT). Bone scintigraphy showed intense, striped, and heterogeneous accumulation of Tc-99m methylene diphosphonate (MDP) in the soft-tissue of his lower limbs, while faint activities were seen in the right upper limb. Tc-99m MDP scintigraphy was very useful for accurate and objective evaluation of the severity of the muscle injury and the extent of polymyositis caused by chronic GVHD.

[Ruptured renal angiomyolipoma treated by transcatheter arterial embolization: report of two cases].

We report two cases of spontaneous rupture of renal angiomyolipoma (AML). In the first case, a 22-year-old woman was admitted with lower abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with rupture of left renal AML.

Differential diagnosis of kidney transplant rejection and cyclosporin/tacrolimus nephropathy using urine cytology.

A total of 9000 urine samples from 69 kidney transplant recipients were studied for differential diagnoses of transplant rejection and cyclosporin/tacrolimus toxicity. New-Sternheimer and Papanicolaou staining were used to differentiate cells in urine. We also employed an immunocytochemical technique for further identification of exfoliated cells.

Quality of life of living kidney donors: the short-form 36-item health questionnaire survey.

Objectives: To determine the psychological and social effects of kidney donation on kidney donors by using the short-form 36-item health survey (SF-36) as the quality-of-life questionnaire.

Methods: A total of 104 living donor nephrectomies have been performed at Kobe University Hospital and Nishinomiya Prefectural Hospital. We mailed the questionnaires to donors or handed them out directly at the outpatient clinic.
