- Head trauma is a common reason for emergency visits in children, and while most cases are minor, identifying serious injuries is difficult; PECARN rules are widely used for assessing head trauma risk but haven’t been tested extensively in Asia.* -
- This study aimed to see if PECARN rules are applicable to Japanese children by conducting a multicenter study involving 6 hospitals and over 6,500 children with minor head trauma.* -
- The results showed an excellent negative predictive value of 99.96%, suggesting the PECARN rules can be safely used in Japan, though more research is needed in less experienced hospitals.*
A 51-year-old woman was diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) in 2011. She underwent treatment with prednisolone. Her hepatobiliary enzyme level increased, and multiple nodules were found in both liver lobes in abdominal imaging studies.
