Adenosine triphosphatase phospholipid transporting 8B1 (ATP8B1) deficiency, an ultrarare autosomal recessive liver disease, includes severe and mild clinical forms, referred to as progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 1 (PFIC1) and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis type 1 (BRIC1), respectively. We report the case of a 12-year-old female patient with C1q deficiency presenting with intractable SLE who successfully underwent bone marrow transplantation from a human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-mismatched unrelated donor with an immunosuppressive conditioning regimen based on fludarabine, melphalan, and anti-thymocyte globulin. She developed Grade I graft-versus-host disease, but did not have any transplantation-related morbidity.

Methods: We retrospectively collected data from 68 children who had status epilepticus and for whom EEGs were recorded within 120 h. These included subjects with a final diagnosis of FS (n = 20), epileptic status (ES; n = 11), acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion (AESD; n = 18), mild encephalopathy with a reversible splenial lesion (MERS; n = 7), other febrile encephalopathies (n = 10), hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (n = 1), and intracranial bleeding (n = 1).

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA deficiency of citrin, which is encoded by the SLC25A13 gene, causes both adult-onset type II citrullinemia (CTLN2) and neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis (NICCD). We analyzed 16 patients with NICCD to clarify the clinical features of the disease. Severe intrahepatic cholestasis with fatty liver was the most common symptom, but the accompanying clinical features were variable, namely; suspected cases of neonatal hepatitis or biliary atresia, positive results from newborn screening, tyrosinemia, failure to thrive, hemolytic anemia, bleeding tendencies and ketotic hypoglycemia.
