Despite the advancements in treatment strategies, the long-term survival of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still pessimistic. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms of hepatocellular carcinoma may offer substantial benefits for patients. Our previous research has revealed that Hornerin promoted HCC progression by regulating the AKT signaling pathway.

Background: Minimal residual disease (MRD) is considered an essential factor leading to relapse within 2 years (early relapse) after radical surgery, which is challenging to be detected by conventional imaging. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) provides a novel approach for detecting MRD and predicting clinical outcomes. Here, we tried to construct a fixed panel for plasma-only ctDNA NGS to enable tumor-uninformed MRD detection in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Among the lymphatic system in the human body, the spleen is the most extensive one and has hematopoietic, hemofiltration, blood storage, and immune functions. As a new method of preserving the spleen, laparoscopic partial splenectomy (LPS) has been increasingly applied in clinical practice with people's deeper insights into minimally invasive treatment and the development of technical equipment. Compared with conventional open splenectomy, LPS can preserve normal spleen tissue as much as possible, decrease the occurrence of complications after total splenectomy, and reduce postoperative hospital stay.

Background And Aims: Radiological prediction of microvascular invasion (MVI) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is essential but few models were clinically implemented because of limited interpretability and generalizability.

Methods: Based on 2096 patients in three independent HCC cohorts, we established and validated an MVI predicting model. First, we used data from the primary cohort to train a 3D-ResNet network for MVI prediction and then optimised the model with "expert-inspired training" for model construction.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most commonly diagnosed malignancy and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. A 58-year-old man visited his local hospital due to abdominal discomfort and was diagnosed with lung metastasis. After admission to our hospital in April 2020, he received two cycles of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE), hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC-Folfox), sorafenib, and camrelizumab every 3 weeks.

Biliary cystadenomas are rare cystic tumors of the bile duct system that are mostly benign but also have the possibility of malignant transformation. Biliary cystadenomas mostly occur in the intrahepatic bile ducts and are more common in middle-aged women. Due to non-specific radiology, preoperative diagnosis is difficult and is usually performed by postoperative pathology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the effectiveness of hepatic resection versus percutaneous ablation in treating resectable caudate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who meet the Milan criteria.
  • The analysis included 67 patients, revealing that those undergoing hepatic resection had higher overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) rates compared to those receiving percutaneous ablation.
  • Prognostic factors such as tumor type, total bilirubin levels, and the treatment strategy were identified as significant predictors of RFS and OS outcomes.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of tumor-associated death worldwide, owing to its high 5-year postoperative recurrence rate and inter-individual heterogeneity. Thus, a prognostic model is urgently needed for patients with HCC. Several researches have reported that copy number amplification of the 8q24 chromosomal region is associated with low survival in many cancers.

Background: Leucine aminopeptidases (LAPs) have been reported to be involved in tumor cell proliferation, invasion and angiogenesis. However, the relationship between serum leucine aminopeptidases and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who underwent liver transplantation (LT) was not yet reported. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of preoperative serum leucine aminopeptidases in these patients.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an aggressive form of cancer characterized by a high recurrence rate following resection. Studies have implicated stromal and immune cells, which form part of the tumor microenvironment, as significant contributors to the poor prognoses of HCC patients. In the present study, we first downloaded gene expression datasets for HCC patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas database and categorized the patients into low and high stromal or immune score groups.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to develop a predictive model for the risk of severe liver damage caused by chemotherapy in cancer patients, using data from 3,870 patients divided into training and validation sets.
  • The model identified specific risk factors (serum triglyceride, body mass index, and history of hypertension) and was able to categorize patients into low, intermediate, and high-risk groups for liver damage, with accuracy indicated by a C-index above 0.8.
  • Preventive treatment with hepatoprotective drugs significantly reduced the incidence of severe liver damage, especially in intermediate and high-risk patients, highlighting the model's potential clinical application for better patient management prior to chemotherapy.

ARID1A, an SWI/SNF chromatin-remodeling gene, is commonly mutated in cancer and hypothesized to be tumor suppressive. In some hepatocellular carcinoma patients, ARID1A was highly expressed in primary tumors but not in metastatic lesions, suggesting that ARID1A can be lost after initiation. Mice with liver-specific homozygous or heterozygous Arid1a loss were resistant to tumor initiation while ARID1A overexpression accelerated initiation.
