A 54-year-old man with resectable pancreatic cancer and abnormally high levels of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) underwent 6 months of platinum-based chemotherapy. This treatment substantially reduced the primary tumor size and normalized CA19-9 levels. Subsequently, radical surgery was conducted.

Background: The nutritional status plays a pivotal role during anticancer therapy. This study analyzed whether nutritional status influences the outcomes in the era of FOLFOX/FIRI therapy.
Methods: The patients were divided into two groups according to whether the nutritional status was well (serum albumin level ≥ 3.
Background: Having three liver resections for colorectal metastases has long been considered to be associated with a high risk of postoperative complications. The present study was designed to assess the feasibility and survival benefits of three liver resections.
Methods: Between 2004 and 2011, data for 273 consecutive patients with colorectal metastases were analyzed.
Background: We have established a splenocytic chimera model that can induce donor-specific tolerance and reconstitute the recipient immune system by donor splenocytes.
Aim: To accelerate such reconstitution, we investigated the role of donor-derived CD4(+)CD25(+) regulatory T-cells (T-reg).
Methods: We established C3H/B6D2F1 mixed bone marrow chimeras in lethally irradiated C3H mice.
Background: The transthoracic approach in liver resection is a useful option for improving the clearance of and access to the operation field. However, this approach remains controversial due to the threat of increased respiratory complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes and biological responses of patients who underwent the transthoracic versus the transabdominal approach in liver resection.

Our aim was to identify the population of splenocytes that are indispensible for switching from BM to splenocytic chimerism.
Methods: C3H/B6D2F1 mixed BM chimeras were established in lethally irradiated C3H mice.
The prognosis of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is extremely poor with a mean survival time of 12 months. The initial symptoms are poor and atypical. Because of its rare entity and little knowledge of its treatments, there are few reports of long-term survival.

Perioperative administration prevents postoperative infection: a statement which is based on the results of five randomized controlled trials performed in the 1970s and 1980s. Our study design was a randomized controlled trial.

We present a case of multiple colorectal liver metastases with macroscopic portal vein thrombi. A 55-year-old woman presented to us with rectosigmoid cancer and presented with two liver metastases. The tumor in the posterior sector was associated with invasion of first order branches of the portal vein.
