Rationale: Blunt traumatic arteriovenous fistula (AVF) of scalp, are uncommon and most of them can be secured by simple embolization or surgical ligation of the feeders. Our goal in writing this paper is to show patients with traumatic scalp AVFs how to prevent complications and the likelihood of recurrence.
Patient Concerns: Complete treatment and reduce the recurrence rate of traumatic AVF on the scalp.
Background: Blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI) accounts for 1-3 % of patients with blunt trauma, which should be promptly diagnosed and managed due to risk of cerebral infarction and death. Antithrombotic therapy had been proven to reduce risk of stroke and mortality. However, due to concern of hematoma progression, treatment suggestion is still inconclusive for patients with concurrent traumatic intracranial hemorrhage.

A brain CT scan showed hyperdense lesions within the left hemispheric sulcus, which raised suspicion of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage. A T1-weighted MRI showed multiple tiny leptomeningeal enhancements in the same area, and a digital subtraction angiography showed no signs of vascular abnormality.

Compared to nonaggressive cranial dural arteriovenous fistulae (cDAVF), aggressive cDAVF carries leptomeningeal venous drainage (LVD) and has approximately 15% annual risk of hemorrhagic and non-hemorrhagic aggressive neurological presentations. In terms of aggressive clinical presentations, the previous classification does not adequately differentiate the higher risk group from the lower risk group. Herein, we retrospectively collected a series of patients with aggressive cDAVF and explored the risk factors for differentiating the higher-risk group from the lower-risk group with aggressive clinical presentations.

A 76-year-old man presented with progressive dementia, gait disturbance, and urinary incontinence for 1 year. Computed tomography scan revealed nonobstructive hydrocephalus, but abnormal papillary structures at the ventricular wall were noted. Before cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion surgery for hydrocephalus, we performed magnetic resonance angiography and magnetic resonance venography, which revealed multiple engorged vessels over the ventricular wall and bilateral hemispheres.

Herein, by using paired normal and prostate cancer-associated stromal fibroblasts (CAFs) derived from a coculture cell model and clinical patient samples, we demonstrated that although CAFs promoted prostate cancer growth, matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) was lower in CAFs but elevated in prostate cancer cells relative to their normal counterparts. Furthermore, hydrogen peroxide was characterized as the central modulator for altered MMP-3 expression in prostate cancer cells and CAFs, but through different regulatory mechanisms.

In this study, we concurrently loaded three chemotherapeutic agents [bis-chloroethylnitrosourea, irinotecan, and cisplatin; BIC] into 50:50 poly[(d,l)-lactide-co-glycolide] (PLGA) nanofibres and an antiangiogenic agent (combretastatin) into 75:25 PLGA nanofibres [BIC and combretastatin (BICC)/PLGA].
