Designing efficient, scalable, and eco-friendly recycling technologies is crucial for addressing the widespread decommissioning of spent lithium-ion batteries. Here, an innovative top-down regeneration method is introduced to rejuvenate highly degraded LiFePO. Initially, the crystal structure of spent LiFePO is destroyed via the oxidation process, followed by the reconstruction of the LiFePO lattice through the reduction process.

Driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, ferroptosis is regulated by p53 and solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11)/glutathione/glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) axis in colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to investigate the influence of curcumin (CUR) on ferroptosis in CRC. The efficacies of CUR on the malignant phenotype of CRC cells were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide, wound healing, and clonogenic assays.

With the popularity and development of electronic devices, the demand for lithium batteries is increasing, which also puts high demands on the energy density, cycle life and safety of lithium batteries. Gel electrolytes achieve both of these requirements by curing the electrolytes to reduce the interfacial side reactions of lithium metal batteries. The ionic conductivity of the gel electrolytes prepared by in situ curing reach 8.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a common condition, particularly in the COVID-19 pandemic, which is distinguished by sudden onset of respiratory insufficiency with tachypnea, oxygen-refractory cyanosis, reduced lung compliance and diffuse infiltration of pulmonary alveoli. It is well-established that increasing activity of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-B) signaling axis and the NOD-, LRR- and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation are associated with the pathogenesis of ALI. Since ALI poses a huge challenge to human health, it is urgent to tackle this affliction with therapeutic intervention.

Rechargeable lithium metal batteries (LMBs) offer excellent opportunities for applications requiring high-energy-density battery systems. So far, it has received a lot of interest in pairing higher-energy-density high-voltage nickel-rich cathodes. Here, fluorinated solvents were used instead of the usual carbonate solvents to prepare gel polymer electrolytes (FGPE) by in situ polymerization of polymers introducing the fluorine-containing groups.

Overwhelming evidence points to an abnormally active Wnt/β-catenin signaling as a key player in colorectal cancer (CRC) pathogenesis. Ursolic acid (UA) is a pentacyclic triterpenoid that has been found in a broad variety of fruits, spices, and medicinal plants. UA has been shown to have potent bioactivity against a variety of cancers, including CRC, with the action mechanism obscure.

Although biopsy-based necrosis rate is a golden standard for reflecting the sensitivity of bone tumor and guiding postoperative chemotherapy, it requires biopsy which is invasive and time-consuming. In this paper, we develop a new necrosis rate detection method using time series X-ray images instead of biopsy. To overcome the limitations of few-shot samples, the proposed method utilizes a Generative Adversarial Network with Long Short-term Memory to generate time series X-ray images.

Nowadays, one of the leading causes of death in humans is cancer, which is still on the rise globally and is in great need of intense study on the pathogenic mechanism and effective therapy. Epigenetics is a discipline that studies heritable changes in gene expression without alteration of DNA sequence. Epigenetic changes mainly involve DNA methylation, histone modifications and non-coding RNA (ncRNA) expression, which are interconnected to play a crucial role in the initiation and progression of various malignancies.

Article Synopsis
  • The pet trade and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consumption are significant contributors to global biodiversity loss, particularly in the case of tokay geckos, which are heavily traded reptiles.
  • A study comparing the genetics and stable isotopes of tokay geckos in Hong Kong found that TCM tokays likely do not come from local populations, with most being related to individuals from South China.
  • The presence of tokay geckos from distant populations suggests a connection to the pet trade, revealing the complex dynamics of wildlife trade and the challenges it poses for local conservation laws regarding endangered species.

Mentha (also known as peppermint), a genus of plants in the taxonomic family Lamiaceae (mint family), is widely distributed throughout temperate regions of the world. Mentha contains various constituents that are classified as peppermint essential oil (PEO) and non-essential components. PEO, consisting mainly of menthol, menthone, neomenthol and iso-menthone, is a mixture of volatile metabolites with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, scolicidal, immunomodulatory, antitumor, neuroprotective, antifatigue and antioxidant activities.

Background: The Wnt signaling pathway is a complex network of protein interactions that functions most commonly in embryonic development and cancer, but is also involved in normal physiological processes in adults. The canonical Wnt signaling pathway regulates cell pluripotency and determines the differentiation fate of cells during development. The canonical Wnt signaling pathway (also known as the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway) is a recognized driver of colon cancer and one of the most representative signaling pathways.

It is being brought to light that smoothened (SMO)-independent non-canonical Hedgehog signaling is associated with the pathogenesis of various cancers. Ursolic acid (UA), a pentacyclic triterpenoid present in many medicinal herbs, manifests potent effectiveness against multiple malignancies including colorectal cancer (CRC). In our previous study, UA was found to protect against CRC in vitro by suppression of canonical Hedgehog signaling cascade.

Background: A growing body of evidence reveals that dysregulation of Hedgehog signaling pathway and dysbiosis of gut microbiota are associated with the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer (CRC). Berberine, a botanical benzylisoquinoline alkaloid, possesses powerful activities against various malignancies including CRC, with the underlying mechanisms to be illuminated.

Purpose: The present study investigated the potencies of berberine on CRC and deciphered the action mechanisms in the context of Hedgehog signaling cascade and gut microbiota.

Study Deign: This was a retrospective study about sacral giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB).

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether ultra-short course of neo-adjuvant denosumab treatment for sacral GCTB could (1) induce radiological and histological response? (2) Facilitate nerve-sparing surgery? (3) Achieve satisfactory oncological and functional outcomes?

Summary Of Background Data: Previous reports on long course of neo-adjuvant denosumab treatment for GCTB showed significant tumor response and a relatively high recurrent rate after curettage.

Methods: Sixty-six patients with sacral GCTB treated with neoadjuvant denosumab and nerve-sparing surgery were categorized into ultra-short course group (≤3 doses and operation within D21 since 1st dose, 41 patients) or conventional group (>3 doses or operation after D21 since 1st dose, 25 patients).

To meet the current need for high-precision and environment-insensitive measurement of the radius of curvature (ROC), we proposed a transverse differential confocal radius measurement (TDCRM) method based on the optical system of the confocal ROC measurement. Using a D-shaped aperture and the virtual pinhole technology, two signals, analogous to the pre-focus and post-focus signals in the two-detector-based differential confocal radius measurement (DCRM), can be obtained from two segmentations of a single CCD image. The difference of these two signals can be used to precisely determine the cat's-eye and confocal positions, thereby achieving the high-accuracy ROC measurement as DCRM with a relative repeatability of 3.

It is a challenging task to prepare well-dispersed and highly luminescent quantum dots (QDs) powder and a new strategy is reported in this article. Sodium carboxymethyl starch (CMS-Na) was employed in this work to prepare the QDs-starch composite. Ultraviolet (UV) light shows that the blank starches had no fluorescence, while the QDs-starches were highly luminescent.
