Carbon-based all-inorganic perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) are promising alternatives compared with conventional organic-inorganic halide PSCs because of their good thermal stability. However, low carrier transport efficiency and energy level mismatch of the upper interface of the device limit the further improvement of power conversion efficiency (PCE), and all-inorganic perovskites are extremely sensitive to oxygen and humidity, which seriously damages the long-term stability of the device. Upper interface modification is an effective solution to improve the PCE and the stability of devices.

Wheat yellow mosaic virus (WYMV) causes severe viral wheat disease in Asia. The WYMV P1 protein encoded by RNA2 has viral suppressor of RNA silencing (VSR) activity to facilitate virus infection, however, VSR activity has not been identified for P2 protein encoded by RNA2. In this study, P2 protein exhibited strong VSR activity in Nicotiana benthamiana at the four-leaf stage, and point mutants P70A and G230A lost VSR activity.

NRF2 (NFE2L2) is a transcription factor mainly for regulating cellular antioxidant response and therefore promotes tumor progression. The target genes of NRF2 also play important roles in cellular processes including glucose metabolism, de novo serine synthesis, iron metabolism, etc. Here, by modulating NRF2 expression in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cells, we showed that NRF2 regulated EGF expression at protein level.

Article Synopsis
  • Glioblastoma (GBM) cells depend on high iron levels for their growth, making them susceptible to ferroptosis, a form of cell death that can be triggered by iron metabolism disruption.
  • The study focused on Sirtuin-3 (SIRT3), a mitochondrial protein that influences iron metabolism and ferroptosis, finding that SIRT3 is overexpressed in GBM and that inhibiting it makes GBM cells more vulnerable to ferroptosis.
  • The research revealed that SIRT3 inhibition results in mitochondrial iron accumulation, triggering mitophagy and regulating the expression of SLC7A11, a protein that helps combat ferroptosis, highlighting a potential therapeutic strategy targeting both SIRT3 and ferropt

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common lung cancer, which accounts for about 35-40% of all lung cancer patients. Despite therapeutic advancements in recent years, the overall survival time of LUAD patients still remains poor, especially KRAS mutant LUAD. Therefore, it is necessary to further explore novel targets and drugs to improve the prognos is for LUAD.

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent and lipid peroxidation-driven cell death cascade, occurring when there is an imbalance of redox homeostasis in the cell. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NFE2L2, also known as NRF2) is key for cellular antioxidant responses, which promotes downstream genes transcription by binding to their antioxidant response elements (AREs). Numerous studies suggest that NRF2 assumes an extremely important role in the regulation of ferroptosis, for its various functions in iron, lipid, and amino acid metabolism, and so on.

Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) enables two legitimate users to generate shared information-theoretic secure keys with immunity to all detector side attacks. However, the original proposal using polarization encoding is sensitive to polarization rotations stemming from birefringence in fibers or misalignment. To overcome this problem, here we propose a robust QKD protocol without detector vulnerabilities based on decoherence-free subspaces using polarization-entangled photon pairs.

Antioxidant transcription factor NRF2 plays a pivotal role in cell ferroptosis. lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a specific molecular subtype of -mutant LUAD. The activation of mutant in combination with the inactivation of and abnormally increases NRF2 expression, while high NRF2 confers LUAD cell resistance to ferroptosis.

We elucidate the origin of large differences (two-fold or more) in the fixed-node errors between the first- vs second-row systems for single-configuration trial wave functions in quantum Monte Carlo calculations. This significant difference in the valence fixed-node biases is studied across a set of atoms, molecules, and also Si, C solid crystals. We show that the key features which affect the fixed-node errors are the differences in electron density and the degree of node nonlinearity.

Article Synopsis
  • Defective contractile motility of the gallbladder contributes to gallstone formation, with estrogen potentially increasing this risk; genistein, a phytoestrogen, was tested for its effects on gallbladder smooth muscle.
  • In an experiment, guinea pig gallbladders were used to measure contractile responses to varying concentrations of genistein, while also evaluating mechanisms via specific antagonists.
  • Results showed that genistein decreased both the resting tension and contractile responses of gallbladder smooth muscle, suggesting it could play a role in gallstone formation by relaxing the muscle, particularly by affecting responses to acetylcholine.
