Background: Obstetric and kidney outcomes following detection of nephrotic-range proteinuria in early pregnancy have not been well described.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in pregnancy between 2008 and 2018. Outcomes in those with nephrotic-range proteinuria before 20 weeks' gestation were compared to those without nephrotic-range proteinuria.

Resuming Deceased Donor Kidney Transplantation in the COVID-19 Era: What Do Patients Want?

Background: The rapidly evolving novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic bought many kidney transplant (KT) programs to a halt. Integral to resuming KT activity is understanding the perspectives of potential transplant candidates during this highly dynamic time.

Methods: From June 1 to July 7, 2020, a telephone survey of KT candidates on the deceased donor waiting list at Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre in West London was conducted.

Background: Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) is a rare disorder characterized by the triad of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and acute renal failure, considered within the group of thrombocytic microangiopathies. Ocular complications in HUS are very rare. Here, we report an adult patient who suffered from acute onset of paracentral scotoma, caused by branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO), as a leading symptom of atypical HUS.

Inhibition of nucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1: implications for developing a calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease modifying drug.

Objectives: Calcium pyrophosphate deposition (CPPD) is associated with osteoarthritis and is the cause of a common inflammatory articular disease. Ecto-nucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1 (eNPP1) is the major ecto-pyrophosphatase in chondrocytes and cartilage-derived matrix vesicles (MVs). Thus, eNPP1 is a principle contributor to extracellular pyrophosphate levels and a potential target for interventions aimed at preventing CPPD.

Comparative efficacy and safety of vancomycin versus teicoplanin: systematic review and meta-analysis.

Vancomycin and teicoplanin are the glycopeptides currently in use for the treatment of infections caused by invasive beta-lactam-resistant gram-positive organisms. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials that have compared vancomycin and teicoplanin administered systemically for the treatment of suspected or proven infections. A comprehensive search of trials without year, language, or publication status restrictions was performed.
