Objective: To investigate the accuracy of cone beam CT (CBCT) to diagnose non-invasive chronic fungal rhinosinusitis.

Methods: Preoperative CT evaluation of non-invasive chronic fungal rhinosinusitis was performed by CBCT (3D Accuitomo 170) and traditional multidetector CT (MDCT) (Aquilion 32) in 13 and 38 patients with non-invasive chronic fungal maxillary sinusitis, respectively, in different facilities. Detection of intrasinus calcification was compared between these two groups.

Objectives: We conducted a histologic examination and measured the tension on the epiglottis to determine how dehiscence of the epiglottis can be prevented after epiglottic closure surgery.

Methods: We classified configurations of the epiglottis into flat, intermediate, and omega types and studied the histology of each type. We also measured the tension in each of these 3 morphological types on 4 regions of the epiglottis (upper, middle, and lower points, and the cuneiform tubercle) at 3 different times: before incision, after median incision, and after reversed-Y incision.

Among surgical treatment for severe aspiration pneumonia, the epiglottic closure procedure, which makes phonation possible, is very useful, but sewing the epiglottis has resulted in postoperative diastasis, and improvement of restitution by epiglottic cartilage elasticity is a problem, so we made reference of configuration and power of restitution of epiglottis clear. We classified epiglottis configurations into flat, intermediate, and omega types and studied epiglottis histology using pathological autopsy. We measured the power of restitution of epiglottis, by a type classification and by the site classification (upper, middle, and lower point) using the extracted larynx.
