Background: To evaluate the efficacy of local-regional radiotherapy (LRRT) in de novo metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (dm NPC) patients receiving chemo-immunotherapy as first-line treatment and select the beneficiaries from LRRT.
Methods And Materials: M1-NPC patients receiving platinum-based chemo-immunotherapy with or without LRRT from four centers were included in this study. The propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was employed to balance the baseline characteristics between the LRRT and non-LRRT groups.
Background: American College of Radiology Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (ACR TI-RADS) being most widely applied in clinical practice, there is an overlap in US imaging manifestations between benign and malignant thyroid nodules.
Objectives: To analyze the imaging and histological characteristics of pathological benign thyroid nodules categorized as American College of Radiology Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (ACR TI-RADS) 4 or 5, and to explore the correlation between the suspicious sonographic signs resulting in the misdiagnoses and the histopathological features.
Materials And Methods: Overall, 227 benign thyroid nodules (215 patients) in ACR TI-RADS 4 or 5 sampled through surgical excision were analyzed between December 2020 and August 2022.
Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA seronegative (Sero-) and seropositive (Sero+) nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) are distinctly different disease subtypes. Patients with higher baseline EBV DNA titers seem to benefit less from anti-PD1 immunotherapy, but underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Tumor microenvironment (TME) characteristics could be the important factor affecting the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Objective: To determine whether induction chemotherapy with paclitaxel, cisplatin, and capecitabine (TPC) improves survival vs cisplatin and fluorouracil (PF) prior to chemoradiotherapy for patients with stage IVA to IVB nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This randomized, open-label, phase 3 clinical trial recruited 238 patients at 4 hospitals in China from October 20, 2016, to August 29, 2019.
Importance: Capecitabine maintenance therapy improves survival outcomes in various cancer types, but data are limited on the efficacy and safety of capecitabine maintenance therapy in metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).
Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of capecitabine maintenance therapy in metastatic NPC.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This randomized phase 3 clinical trial was conducted at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center from May 16, 2015, to January 9, 2020, among 104 patients with newly diagnosed metastatic NPC who had achieved disease control after 4 to 6 cycles of induction chemotherapy with paclitaxel, cisplatin, and capecitabine.
Importance: Nonanatomic prognostic factors complement the traditional anatomic staging system and could be incorporated into the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) framework. Several diseases have incorporated nonanatomic prognostic factors into the determination of TNM staging groups.
Objective: To refine TNM staging groups for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-related nonmetastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) by incorporating EBV DNA status.
Purpose: Previous studies suggest that a cumulative cisplatin dose of 200 mg/m might be adequate in the intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) era for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC). However, two cycles of once-every-3-weeks cisplatin at 100 mg/m has never been prospectively compared with standard once-a-week cisplatin regimen.
Patients And Methods: This trial was conducted at three hospitals from 2011 to 2016.
Purpose: We sought to assess the prognostic and predictive value of a circulating inflammation signature (CISIG) and develop CISIG-based tools for predicting prognosis and guiding individualized induction chemotherapy (ICT) in non-metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively collected a candidate inflammatory biomarker panel from patients with NPC treated with definitive radiotherapy between 2012 and 2017. We developed the CISIG using candidate biomarkers identified by a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression model.
Background: Cisplatin-based induction chemotherapy plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma has been recommended in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Guidelines. However, cisplatin is associated with poor patient compliance and has notable side-effects. Lobaplatin, a third-generation platinum drug, has shown promising antitumour activity against several malignancies with less toxicity.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively collected ten candidate inflammatory and nutritional parameters from de novo mNPC patients who received platinum-based first-line chemotherapy treatment. We examined the effects of these ten candidate variables on progression-free survival (PFS) using the Cox regression model.
Background: The mortality of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is usually lower in females than in males, but the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. We sought to describe the age-dependent patterns of gender disparities in NPC survival and explore the extent to which the confounder or mediation effects could explain these differences.
Methods: A total of 11,980 patients with NPC were reviewed.
We aimed to develop a nomogram integrating MRI-based tumor burden features (MTBF), nodal necrosis, and some clinical factors to forecast the distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) of patients suffering from non-metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). A total of 1640 patients treated at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (Guangzhou, China) from 2011 to 2016 were enrolled, among which 1148 and 492 patients were randomized to a training cohort and an internal validation cohort, respectively. Additionally, 200 and 257 patients were enrolled in the Foshan and Dongguan validation cohorts, respectively, which served as independent external validation cohorts.

Methods And Materials: Patients with de novo mNPC who received first-line PCT with or without DRT were included. Overall survival for patients who received PCT alone versus PCT plus DRT was estimated using inverse probability of treatment weighting-adjusted survival analyses.
Background: To explore the prognostic value of early radiological response (ERR) to first-line platinum-containing chemotherapy in patients with metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (mNPC), as well as its correlation with the best radiological response (BRR).
Patients And Methods: A total of 756 mNPC patients with measurable lesions who received first-line platinum-containing chemotherapy were enrolled in this study. ERR was defined as complete or partial response after 6 weeks of chemotherapy according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) 1.
A DFT/TDDFT (density functional theory/time-dependent density functional theory) investigation on the geometries in the ground and lowest triplet excited states, the frontier molecular orbitals, the absorption spectra and the phosphorescent emission properties of five heteroleptic iridium(iii) complexes have been performed to obtain a better understanding of structure-property relationships. The key aim was to investigate the effect of π-conjugation on the photophysical properties of these studied complexes. The lowest energy absorption wavelengths are located at 461 nm for 1, 418 nm for 2, 422 nm for 3, 426 nm for 4 and 417 nm for 5.

Here, we aimed to develop an artificial intelligence tool to detect nasopharyngeal malignancies under endoscopic examination based on deep learning.
Methods: An endoscopic images-based nasopharyngeal malignancy detection model (eNPM-DM) consisting of a fully convolutional network based on the inception architecture was developed and fine-tuned using separate training and validation sets for both classification and segmentation.
To date, no guidelines exist for elderly nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients (60 years of age or older) due to a lack of prospective clinical trials. This study evaluated the efficacy of concurrent chemotherapy (CCRT) for NPC in elderly patients treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Patients were identified from a prospectively maintained database.

This study aimed to evaluate the benefits of IMRT with concurrent chemotherapy compared with IMRT alone for LA-NPC patients with different plasma Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA levels.
Methods: Patients were identified from a prospectively maintained database in an endemic area between November 2002 and December 2013.
Designing the new microstructure is an effective way to accelerate the biomedical application of magnesium (Mg) alloys. In this study, a novel Mg-8Er-1Zn alloy with profuse nano-spaced basal plane stacking faults (SFs) was prepared by combined processes of direct-chill semi-continuous casting, heat-treatment and hot-extrusion. The formation of SFs made the alloy possess outstanding comprehensive performance as the biodegradable implant material.

We find, on the consideration of both the electron correlation and spin-orbital coupling effect, that the LCMO takes on insulating nature, yet is transformed to half metallicity once the external pressure is introduced. Such tuning is accompanied by a spin-state transition of Co(2+) from the high-spin state (t(5)2ge(2)g) to low-spin state (t(6)2ge(1)g) because of the enhancement of crystal-field splitting under pressure.

Our results show that the conductance and thermopower of the junction can be modulated by its width, the potential drop, and the applied perpendicular magnetic fields. A narrow graphene p-n junction shows insulating characteristics, and its thermopower is much larger than that of the wider one around the Dirac point.
