With the development of technology, multifunctional multiband emitters have been paid much attention due to their wide range of applications, such as LIDAR detection, spectroscopic sensing, and infrared thermal management. However, the development of such emitters is impeded by incompatible structural requirements of different electromagnetic wavebands. Here, we demonstrate coupled modulation between near-infrared (NIR) laser-wavelength and long-wavelength-infrared by constructing a multifunctional emitter (MFE) with a structure of Al/HfO/VO, utilizing the phase transition of VO.

The unique metal-insulator transition of VO is very suitable for dynamic electromagnetic (EM) regulation materials due to its sharp change in electrical conductivity. Here, we have developed an off/on switchable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding composite by interconnecting VO nanowires (NWs) in poly(vinylidene fluoride--hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) to form conductive networks, resulting in outstanding performance at the X and Ku bands with maximum change values of 44.8 and 59.

Background: Moderate-to-severe post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis contributes to most of the poor outcomes of patients with post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP). However, it remains unclear which part of the patient is more vulnerable to moderate-to-severe PEP (MS PEP). In this study, we aimed to identify the risk factors independently associated with MS PEP.

Background: The challenges of clinical translation of optical imaging, including the limited availability of clinically used imaging probes and the restricted penetration depth of light propagation in tissues can be avoided using Cerenkov luminescence endoscopy (CLE). However, the clinical applications of CLE are limited due to the low signal level of Cerenkov luminescence and the large transmission loss caused by the endoscope, which results in a relatively low detection sensitivity of current CLE. The aim of this study was to enhance the detection sensitivity of the CLE system and thus improve the system for clinical application in the detection of gastrointestinal diseases.

Dynamic thermal management materials attract fast-increasing interest due to their adaptability to changing environments and greater energy savings as compared to static materials. However, the high transition temperature and the low emittance tunability of the vanadium dioxide (VO)-based infrared radiation regulators limit their practical applications. This study addresses these issues by proposing a smart infrared radiation regulator based on a Fabry-Pérot cavity structure (VO/HfO/Al), which is prepared by high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) and has the potential for large-scale production.

Article Synopsis
  • Single-balloon enteroscopy (SBE) is an important but challenging method for diagnosing small-bowel diseases, and this study evaluates how the water exchange technique affects the procedure.
  • In a controlled trial with 110 patients, those in the water exchange group had a higher total enteroscopy success rate (58.2%) compared to the carbon dioxide group (36.4%) and reached greater depths during the procedure.
  • Although the water exchange method led to longer insertion times, it did not increase the rate of complications, demonstrating its potential benefits for SBE.
