Glucosinolates (GLS) are bioactive compounds found in Brassicaceae vegetables. Industrial food processing treatments, such as blanching, quick-freezing (QF), vacuum freeze-drying (VFD), vacuum-drying (VD) and oven-drying (OD), significantly affect the degradation and ingestion of GLS. Here, the effects of these treatments, followed by boiling, on the GLS content and mimicking ingestion level of isothiocyanate from Brassicaceae vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, white and red cabbages, Chinese and baby cabbages, white and red radish roots) were investigated.

In this work, a novel streptavidin functionalized graphene oxide/Au nanoparticles (streptavidin/GO/AuNPs) composite is prepared and for the first time used to construct sensitive chemiluminescent immunosensor for the detection of tumor marker. The streptavidin/GO/AuNPs composite and the immunosensor are characterized using scanning electron microscopy, static water contact angle measurement and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The biofunctionalized composite has large reactive surface area and excellent biocompatibility, thus the capture antibody can be efficiently immobilized on its surface based on the highly selective recognition of streptavidin to biotinylated antibody.

Interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) has been recognized as a potent stimulus for the synthesis of prostaglandin (PG), which has been implicated in inflammatory responses of the airways. However, the mechanisms underlying IL-1beta-induced cyclooxygenase (COX) expression and PGE(2) synthesis via activation of p42/p44 and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) in human tracheal smooth muscle cells (HTSMCs) are not completely understood. We found that IL-1beta increased COX-2 expression and PGE(2) synthesis in time- and concentration-dependent manners.

This study was to determine the mechanisms of IL-1beta-enhanced cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expression associated with PGE(2) synthesis in tracheal smooth muscle cells (TSMCs). IL-1beta markedly increased COX-2 expression and PGE(2) formation in a time- and concentration-dependent manner in TSMCs.
