Seven undescribed compounds, namely, 4-hydroxy-3-(2'-hydroxy-3'-methyl-1'-butenyl) acetophenone-1'-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), 4-hydroxy-3-((Z)-3'-hydroxy-3'-methyl-1'-butenyl) acetophenone-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), 4,6-hydroxy-3-((Z)-3'-hydroxy-3'-methyl-1'-butenyl) acetophenone-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (3), 4-hydroxy-3-((Z)-3'-hydroxy-3'-methyl-1'-butenyl) acetophenone-6-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (4), 2-hydroxymethylimino-3,4-dimethyl-7-hydroxy-6-methyl ketone-2H-chromon (5), annuolide A-15-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (6) and heliannuoside A (7), together with eighteen known compounds, were obtained from water extract of the flower heads of Helianthus annuus L. (Asteraceae). The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on spectroscopic analyses.

Background: A reliable model is needed to estimate the risk of postoperative recurrence and the benefits of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) in patients with thoracic esophageal squamous cell cancer (TESCC).

Backgrounds: Cancer cell resistance to chemotherapy drugs such as Gemcitabine, Oxaliplatin, Cisplatin, Doxorubicin, and 5-fluorouracil account for the main reason of chemotherapy failure for HCC patients, especially for those with advanced HCC or metastasis patients. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential effect of activation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling pathway on the expression of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells with EGFR overexpression.

Methods: Flow cytometry and Western blot methods were used to assess PD-L1 expression on ESCC cells when EGFR signaling pathway was activated by epidermal growth factor (EGF) with or without EGFR-specific inhibitor AG-1478, and then EGFR signaling array was applied to analyze the potential signaling pathways involved.

Results: This study found that PD-L1 expression increased significantly in an EGFR-dependent manner by the activation of EGFR signaling and decreased sharply when EGFR signaling was blocked.
