Unlabelled: Improvement of grain protein content (GPC), loaf volume, and resistance to rusts was achieved in 11 Indian wheat cultivars that are widely grown in four different agro-climatic zones of India. This involved use of marker-assisted backcross breeding (MABB) for introgression and pyramiding of the following genes: (i) the high GPC gene ; (ii) HMW glutenin subunits 5 + 10 at loci, and (iii) rust resistance genes, , , , and . GPC increased by 0.

In this study, we report the plastome of Eriocaulon decemflorum (Eriocaulaceae) and make an effort to understand the genome evolution, structural rearrangements and gene content of the order Poales by comparing it with other available plastomes. The size of complete E. decemflorum plastome is 151,671 bp with an LSC (81,477bp), SSC (17,180bp) and a pair of IRs (26,507 bp).

Leaf rust resistance gene Lr28 controls one of the important resistances in the Indian subcontinent against the most prevalent Puccinia triticina pathotype 77-5. Pyramiding Lr28 with other resistance genes would therefore, provide durable resistance against rust, a process that can be facilitated by DNA markers. A microsatellite marker wmc313 linked to Lr28 at a distance of 5.

"Chirayat" represents a group in which different species of Swertia and some other non-Swertia species are used as local substitutes/adulterants for the Swertia chirayita. Twelve different taxa recognized under "Chirayat" complex were characterized using ISSR markers. On the basis of preliminary screening, 16 informative primers were selected for molecular profiling.
