Background: Marsupials have a narrower range of forelimb morphological features than placental mammals. It is hypothesized that this is due to a constraint in the reproductive biology of marsupials. The constraint is that newborn marsupials must crawl into their mother's pouch.

Background/aim: Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in both men and women worldwide. The 5-year relative survival rate for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is 10%, which is the lowest among all cancers. This study aimed to find more effective targets to improve the diagnosis, prognostic prediction, and treatment of PDAC.

Previous studies have reported that the lateral meniscus (LM) has two regions, the popliteal hiatus area (PH) with a scarce blood supply and the roots with an abundant one. However, the description of its vascular anatomy remains insufficient. We hypothesized that the difference in the width of the meniscus hilum (MH) affects the scarcity and abundance of blood supply to the LM.

Background: Surgical intervention involving the pancreas can lead to impaired glucose tolerance and other types of endocrine dysfunction. The scope of pancreatectomy and whether it includes the ventral pancreas are the key factors in the development of postoperative diabetes. The ventral and dorsal pancreases are almost separated in ().

Article Synopsis
  • The Japan Pancreas Society released the eighth edition of its classification for pancreatic carcinoma in 2023, highlighting several updates.
  • The updated classification maintains a focus on local invasion factors for the T category, as opposed to tumor size, and introduces a redefined naming system for lymph nodes with added location-based definitions.
  • Significant improvements include the incorporation of peritoneal cytology in the distant metastasis category and enhanced criteria for diagnosing tumors via endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy (EUS-FNAB).

Background: In recent years, elucidating the actual state of the liver nervous system has attracted attention, owing to clinical needs, such as liver transplantation. Conventional methods for studying the intrahepatic nerve distribution mostly use liver tissue sections, specific markers for immunohistological studies, or anterograde/retrograde tracing in animals. However, knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of intrahepatic innervation is vague or speculative.

Background: That the peroneus tertius muscle (PT) is a separate entity has been debated. PT has been reported to be part of the extensor digitorum longus muscle, part of the extensor digitorum brevis, or a separate muscle. While pigs have a PT as well as primates, there are no reports of its association with the extensor digitorum longus muscle or extensor digitorum brevis.

Background: We observed the phenomenon of pancreatic islet cell loss (ICL) in our previous histopathological study. Multiple studies have reported that a decrease in β-cells is correlated with diabetes or chronic pancreatitis. Few studies have reported ICL in a healthy population.

Suncus murinus is gaining prominence as a laboratory animal; however, there is no generally accepted method for microbiological monitoring. This study aimed to apply non-serological microbiological monitoring of laboratory mice for S. murinus and identify the subdominant species obtained by culture methods for microbial assessment.

Background: The global population of obese individuals is increasing, affecting human health. High-fat diets are a leading cause of this epidemic, and animal models, such as mice, are often used in related research. Obese individuals have a different gut microbiota composition from non-obese ones, characterized by a sizeable population of certain bacteria associated with fat storage.

Article Synopsis
  • * Traditional methods for coating CNTs with Ni nanoparticles are complex and limit their practical use, prompting the need for simpler techniques.
  • * The research introduces polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to achieve uniform Ni nanoparticle distribution on CNTs, resulting in composites with impressive MA performance, showing a minimum reflection loss of -39.5 dB and a bandwidth of 5.2 GHz at a 1.15 mm thickness.

Background: Some reports have used pigs to establish models of meniscus injury. However, accurate information on the origin, course, and access of the arteries supplying the menisci remains unclear. This information is important to avoid damaging vital arteries when creating the meniscus injury model.

Objective: Previous studies have indicated that neurotransmitters play important roles in the occurrence and development of gastric cancer. MAOA is an important catecholamine neurotransmitter-degrading enzyme involved in the degradation of norepinephrine, epinephrine and serotonin. To find a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of gastric cancer, the biological functions of MAOA and the underlying mechanism in gastric cancer need to be explored.

Introduction: Important studies on the relationship of the intestinal microbial flora with obesity have uncovered profound changes in the composition of the gut microbiota in obese individuals. Animal studies successfully altered body phenotypes by fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT).

Methods: In this study, we analyzed the gut microbiome of (), a naturally obesity-resistant animal, and the changes of the gut flora of C57BL/6NCrSIc mice that received gut bacteria transplantation from by 16S rRNA gene analysis method.

Article Synopsis
  • Gastric cancer is a serious disease that often spreads to the liver, making it harder to treat, and SLITRK4 is a protein that may play a key role in this process.
  • Researchers studied SLITRK4 to see how it affects gastric cancer and its spread to the liver, using various tests on cells and mice.
  • They found that higher levels of SLITRK4 are linked to worse outcomes for patients, and targeting SLITRK4 could be a possible new way to help treat gastric cancer that has spread to the liver.

Highlights: A multi-scale conductive network was constructed in flexible PDMS/Ag@PLASF/CNT composite with micro-size Ag@PLASF and nano-size CNT. The PDMS/Ag@PLASF/CNT composite showed outstanding electrical conductivity of 440 S m and superior electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of up to 113 dB. The PDMS/Ag@PLASF/CNT composites owned good retention (> 90%) of electromagnetic interference shielding performance even after subjected to a simulated aging strategy or 10,000 bending-releasing cycles.

Lymph nodes (LNs) are a common site of metastasis in many solid cancers. Tumour cells can migrate to LNs for further metastatic colonization of distant organs, indicating poor prognosis and requiring different clinical interventions. The histopathological diagnostic methods currently used to detect clinical lymph node metastasis (LNM) have limitations, such as incomplete visualization.

A black yeast, , extracellularly produces β-(1,3), (1,6)-D-glucan (β-glucan) under certain conditions. The β-glucan is known to be an immunomodulatory agent, and β-glucan enriched cultured fluid (AP-CF) is used in supplements to maintain human health. Concanavalin A (ConA) is a lectin, and when injected it is known to cause T cell mediated autoimmune hepatitis in mice.

Experimental autoimmune orchitis (EAO) may be used as a model to investigate immunological infertility in men. Murine EAO is induced via immunization with auto-immunogenic antigens (AIAgs) from testicular germ cells (TGCs). CD4 + T cells play a crucial role in EAO induction.

Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) remains lethal as a life-threatening complication after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Inflammatory responses play an important role in aGvHD. 5-Aminolevulinic acid combined with sodium ferrous citrate (5-ALA/SFC) has been widely reported to have a major effect on the anti-inflammatory response; however, these effects in aGvHD models have never been reported.

Developmentally, the uncinate process of the pancreas is derived from the ventral pancreatic anlagen, supplied by the superior mesenteric artery (SMA), and contains pancreatic polypeptide (PP)-rich islets of Langerhans. In contrast, the other parts of the pancreas originate from the dorsal anlagen supplied by the celiac system and contain PP-poor islets. This study was performed to investigate whether morphogenesis of the ventral pancreas anlagen is associated with the pattern of SMA branching.
