- This study compared the effects of two types of cataract surgery—femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) and phacoemulsification (PE)—on retinal and choroidal thickness in diabetic patients.
- It included 91 eyes (47 in the PE group and 44 in the FLACS group) and used optical coherence tomography (OCT) to measure central macular thickness (CMT) and subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) before and after surgery.
- Results showed that FLACS led to quicker recovery in both thickness metrics compared to PE, with FLACS patients seeing improved vision and less effective phaco time, while baseline CMT significantly predicted post-surgery changes
