Guanylate-binding proteins (GBPs) are a subfamily of interferon-inducible proteins that undertake distinct roles in the the context of bacteria, virus, chlamydia and parasites infections. These proteins exert a notable influence on the progression and outcomes of infectious diseases. Within the realm of host cell-autonomous immunity against pathogens, GBPs have been identified as the regulators of pyroptosis through canonical and noncanonical inflammasome activation pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the effectiveness of multiple cross displacement amplification (MCDA) combined with real-time PCR in diagnosing pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) among 228 PTB patients and 141 non-TB cases.
  • MCDA showed a significantly higher sensitivity (64.0%) compared to Xpert MTB/RIF (51.8%) and conventional culture methods (47.8%).
  • The MCDA assay's accuracy can enhance TB diagnosis, raising confirmed cases from 57.9% to 71.5%, making it a promising and rapid option for healthcare settings with real-time PCR capabilities.
