Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the experiences of registered nurses with an e-learning education program (ELEP) at a medical center in Taipei, comparing it to a traditional classroom program (TICP).
  • Nurses were randomly assigned to either the ELEP or TICP, with all participants scoring above 70, and significant differences noted only in teaching and learning and communication courses.
  • High satisfaction rates (97.6%) were reported among participants from both programs, with all nurses passing their skill tests, suggesting e-learning could be a viable alternative for nursing education in Taiwan.

Objective: To describe the Instructional System Design Processes (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) used to develop an e-learning education programme for staff nurses at a 700-bed teaching medical center in Taiwan.

Background: Evidence has shown that education via e-learning improves knowledge and skills; however, with cost constraints and limited resources, finding effective alternatives is critical for health professionals.

Methods: Five courses required for N2 to N3 level nurses were designed for both e-learning and traditional in-classroom programmes.

Nurse subjects were recruited by a cross-sectional nationwide survey with stratified sampling from nine hospitals distributed in the four major geographic regions of Taiwan.
