The cerambycid beetles are key players for the sustenance of biodiversity in the forest ecosystem, but in most cases are well known due to their harmfulness to agricultural and forest plants. Here, we characterized the odorant binding protein (OBP) gene family in Rhaphuma horsfieldi, emphasizing the roles of RhorOBP1 in odorant reception and insecticide sequestering. A homology-based search led to the identification of 35 RhorOBP genes with a major distribution in the Minus-C OBPs clade (21/35 genes).

Article Synopsis
  • CircFBXW7 is implicated in various cancers, with its specific role in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) being investigated.
  • The study found that circFBXW7 expression is lower in NSCLC cells compared to normal lung epithelial cells, and its overexpression reduced cell growth, movement, and invasion capabilities.
  • Additionally, miR-492 was identified as a target of circFBXW7, and miR-492 mimics counteracted the inhibitory effects of circFBXW7 on NSCLC cells.

Article Synopsis
  • Bone metastasis (BM) significantly worsens the prognosis for patients with primary malignant bone neoplasms (PMBNs), with only 4.8% of diagnosed patients having BM at diagnosis.
  • Key risk factors for developing BM include tumor location, size, type (notably Ewing sarcoma), and regional lymph node involvement.
  • A nomogram created from identified prognostic factors (like tumor type and treatment history) can effectively predict cancer-specific survival for these patients.

Objective: To compare the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture (EA) combined with donepezil hydrochloride and donepezil hydrochloride alone on improving learning-memory ability in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), and to explore its action mechanism.

Methods: Sixty patients of AD were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. The patients in the observation group were treated with EA at governor vessel (GV) combined with donepezil hydrochloride.

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE) is a rare chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology that most commonly presents as painless lymphadenopathy or subcutaneous masses in the head and neck region. The pathogenesis of the disease is not yet clear. The differential diagnosis is determined using characteristic histological features, such as significant vascular proliferation, lymphocytes and eosinophil inflammation in the dermis.

Objective: To analyze the COX1 sequences of Taenia isolates from four areas of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and to understand the distribution of Taenia asiatica in Guangxi.

Methods: Patients with taeniasis in Luzhai, Rongshui, Tiandong and Sanjiang in Guangxi were treated by deworming, and the Taenia isolates were collected. Cyclooxygenase-1 (COX1) sequences of these isolates were amplified by PCR, and the PCR products were sequenced by T-A clone sequencing.

Objective: To evaluate the cost-benefit of comprehensive parasitic disease control project in Rongxian County of Guangxi, so as to provide the evidence for formulating the control strategy of soil-transmitted nematode.

Methods: The data of the overall input and output for soil-transmitted nematode control were collected from 2007 to 2009, and the cost-benefit was analyzed.

Results: The infection rates of soil-transmitted nematode dropped from 30.

Objective: To investigate the distribution of common food-borne parasitic diseases and dietary habits in Guangxi.

Methods: In the survey from 2002 to 2005, questionnairing, fecal examination, ELISA or skin test were applied in the endemic areas of clonorchiasis, taeniasis, cysticercosis, trichinelliasis or paragonimiasis in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. 13 990 residents at 27 sites in 9 counties were examined for clonorchiasis, 22772 residents at 22 sites in 10 counties for taeniasis, 9 638 residents at 20 sites in 10 counties for trichinelliasis and 9 347 residents at 18 sites in 6 counties for paragonimiasis.

To investigate if microdeletion of chromosome 22q11 is an epidemiologically important cause of congenital heart disease (CHD), we studied 25 cases with CHD phenotypes. Venous blood samples were tested by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for microdeletion of 22q11. Among 23 cases with simple CHD, 19 were shown not to have microdeletion of 22q11 and the other 4 cases were shown to have 22q11 microdeletion.
