Topological Analysis of the Language Networks of Ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine Books.

This study aims to explore the topological regularities of the character network of ancient traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) book. We applied the 2-gram model to construct language networks from ancient TCM books. Each text of the book was separated into sentences and a TCM book was generated as a directed network, in which nodes represent Chinese characters and links represent the sequential associations between Chinese characters in the sentences (the occurrence of identical sequential associations is considered as the weight of this link).

Identification and Analysis of the Blood lncRNA Signature for Liver Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

As one of the most common malignant tumors, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth major cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide. In 90% of cases, HCC develops in the context of liver cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is an important etiology for cirrhosis and HCC, accounting for 53% of all HCC cases. To understand the underlying mechanisms of the dynamic chain reactions from normal to HBV infection, from HBV infection to liver cirrhosis, from liver cirrhosis to HCC, we analyzed the blood lncRNA expression profiles from 38 healthy control samples, 45 chronic hepatitis B patients, 46 liver cirrhosis patients, and 46 HCC patients.

The field confinement of plasmonic systems enables spectral tunability under structural variations or environmental perturbations, which is the principle for various applications including nanorulers, sensors, and color displays. Here, we propose and demonstrate that materials with anomalous dispersion, such as Ge in the visible, improve spectral tunability. We introduce our proposal with a semianalytical guided mode picture.

Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) originates from vascular endothelial cells, with KS-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) as the etiological agent. SRY-box transcription factor 5 (SOX5) plays different roles in various types of cancer, although its role in KS remains poorly understood. In this study, we identified the role of SOX5 in KS tissues and KSHV-infected cells and elucidated the molecular mechanism.

Nevadensin (NEV), a natural flavonoid compound derived from Lysionotus pauciflorus Maxim, has numerous biological activities. However, few researchers have examined its potential impact on alleviating allergies. In the present study, NEV was found to upregulate rectal temperature, suppress the development of diarrhea, and decrease the levels of serum specific immunoglobulin E, histamine and mouse MC protease-1 in ovalbumin-allergic mice.

Their structures were determined as 4-hydroxyphthalide (), Fumitremorgin C (), Ergosterol (), 3-(2-hydroxypropyl)-8-hydroxy-3,4- dihydroisocoumarin (), Cis-cyclo(-Ala--Pro) (), 6-Amino-3-(4-hydroxybenzyl)- 1,4-diazonane-2,5-dione (), Aspergillumarin B (), Deacetylisowortmin B (), and Entonaemin A () based on NMR spectral data, as well as comparing with previous literature data. This is the first report of the isolation of compounds - and - from genus.

ICP6 Prevents RIP1 Activation to Hinder Necroptosis Signaling.

Necroptosis is a type of programmed necrosis which depends on the activation of receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIP3). Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is known to block necroptosis by the viral protein ICP6 in human cells, but its specific inhibitory mechanism is not fully understood. Here we reported that ICP6 could promote rather than suppress the formation of necrosome, the necroptosis signaling complex containing RIP3 and upstream regulator receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIP1), but blocked RIP3 activation.

Photocatalytic Activity Investigation of α-Zirconium Phosphate Nanoparticles Compositing with CN under Ultraviolet Light.

In order to further develop efficient ultraviolet light-driven photocatalysts for environmental application, α-zirconium phosphate (α-ZrP) and carbon nitride (CN) were synthesized, respectively. Then, CN-ZrP compositing nanomaterials were prepared by compositing α-ZrP nanocrystals and CN with different mass ratios. CN-ZrP compositing nanomaterials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

Viridicatol Isolated from Deep-Sea Alleviates Anaphylaxis and Repairs the Intestinal Barrier in Mice by Suppressing Mast Cell Activation.

Viridicatol is a quinoline alkaloid isolated from the deep-sea-derived fungus The structure of viridicatol was unambiguously established by X-ray diffraction analysis. In this study, a mouse model of ovalbumin-induced food allergy and the rat basophil leukemia (RBL)-2H3 cell model were established to explore the anti-allergic properties of viridicatol. On the basis of the mouse model, we found viridicatol to alleviate the allergy symptoms; decrease the levels of specific immunoglobulin E, mast cell protease-1, histamine, and tumor necrosis factor-α; and promote the production of interleukin-10 in the serum.
