Diabetes, a chronic non-communicable disease, has become one of the most serious and critical public health problems with increasing incidence trends. Chronic vascular complications are the major causes of disability and death in diabetic patients with endothelial dysfunction. Diabetes is intimately associated with endothelial mitochondrial dysfunction, indicated by increased oxidative stress, decreased biogenesis, increased DNA damage, and weakened autophagy in mitochondria.

Chronic exposure to cadmium causes immune disturbances. However, few studies have addressed how it affects circulating immune cells, one of the most essential elements for the host defense system, at both population and molecular level.

Context: Although the incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is significantly higher in females than in males, the prognosis of male PTC is more unfavorable. However, the cause of higher malignancy of PTC in male patients remains unclear.
Objective: We conducted our analysis on microarrays datasets, tissue samples from PTC patients and the RNAseq datasets from TCGA with survival data.
To develop and validate an integrative nomogram based on white matter (WM) radiomics biomarkers and nonmotor symptoms for the identification of early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD). The brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and clinical characteristics of 336 subjects, including 168 patients with PD, were collected from the Parkinson's Progress Markers Initiative (PPMI) database. All subjects were randomly divided into training and test sets.

Methods: Microarray analysis was conducted to compare the genes and miRNAs in liver tissue from HBV-positive and HBV-negative HCC patients.
An easy scoring system to predict the risk of poor outcome after mechanical thrombectomy among the elderly is currently not available. Therefore, we aimed to develop a nomogram for predicting the probability of negative prognosis in aged patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing thrombectomy. In addition, we sought to investigate the association between histological thrombus composition and stroke characteristics.

This study aims to explore the topological regularities of the character network of ancient traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) book. We applied the 2-gram model to construct language networks from ancient TCM books. Each text of the book was separated into sentences and a TCM book was generated as a directed network, in which nodes represent Chinese characters and links represent the sequential associations between Chinese characters in the sentences (the occurrence of identical sequential associations is considered as the weight of this link).

In 90% of cases, HCC develops in the context of liver cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is an important etiology for cirrhosis and HCC, accounting for 53% of all HCC cases. To understand the underlying mechanisms of the dynamic chain reactions from normal to HBV infection, from HBV infection to liver cirrhosis, from liver cirrhosis to HCC, we analyzed the blood lncRNA expression profiles from 38 healthy control samples, 45 chronic hepatitis B patients, 46 liver cirrhosis patients, and 46 HCC patients.

Our aim was to determine the PK of teicoplanin in an Asian pediatric population and to optimize dosage regimens. This was a retrospective PK study and all the data were collected from hospitalized children.

Here, we propose and demonstrate that materials with anomalous dispersion, such as Ge in the visible, improve spectral tunability. We introduce our proposal with a semianalytical guided mode picture.

During the past 10 months, COVID-19 has killed over 1 million people worldwide. Under this global crisis, data sharing and management of the COVID-19 information are urgently needed and critical for researchers, epidemiologists, physicians, bioengineers, funding agencies, and governments to work together in developing new vaccines, drugs, methods, therapeutics, and strategies for the prevention and treatment of this deadly and rapidly spreading disease.

Methods: We retrospectively compared overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), locoregional control (LRC), and disease-free survival (DFS) at our institution between January 2012 and December 2016. Propensity score-matching was performed to reduce patient selection bias based on age, gender, Karnofsky performance score, Charlson comorbidity index, pulmonary function, and tumor diameter.
Background And Aims: Malnutrition is a concern in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) during chemoradiotherapy (CRT)/radiotherapy (RT), which is considered to be related with radiation-induced oral mucositis (ROM). The study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status of NPC patients during RT and investigate its association with ROM.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted in NPC patients.
Attitudes towards human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) in China have witnessed a significant shift in 2020 that can be attributed to China's policy guidance. For ethical reasons, stricter standards are adopted to curb related regulations and patent licensing. Through the introduction of policies, some research on hESCs has been recognized as legitimate and feasible to a certain standard and scope.

SRY-box transcription factor 5 (SOX5) plays different roles in various types of cancer, although its role in KS remains poorly understood. In this study, we identified the role of SOX5 in KS tissues and KSHV-infected cells and elucidated the molecular mechanism.

Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is known to block necroptosis by the viral protein ICP6 in human cells, but its specific inhibitory mechanism is not fully understood. Here we reported that ICP6 could promote rather than suppress the formation of necrosome, the necroptosis signaling complex containing RIP3 and upstream regulator receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIP1), but blocked RIP3 activation.
