Pseudorabies virus (PRV), the causative agent of Aujeszky's disease in swine, is a significant pathogen in veterinary medicine. Rab35 is a key regulatory GTPase involved in diverse cellular functions, including endocytic recycling, cytokinesis, and the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton. Although Rab35's roles in these processes are well-documented, its contribution to PRV replication dynamics had not been previously elucidated.

The vitamin D receptor (VDR) is a nuclear steroid receptor that regulates the expression of genes across various biological functions. However, the role of VDR in pseudorabies virus (PRV) infection has not yet been explored. We discovered that VDR positively influenced PRV proliferation because knockdown of VDR impaired PRV proliferation, whereas its overexpression promoted it.

Benefits of the Modified Version of the Illness-Wellness Continuum Model for Nurse Education.

With rapid advancements in sciences and the expanding scope of nursing practice, faculty are challenged to connect the experiences of learners with abstract concepts of science and to cultivate clinical reasoning skills. Rationale for the adoption of the illness-wellness continuum model includes the following: (a) the relationships among illness, health, and the nursing process are relevant in many health situations, and (b) levels of wellness are steeped in holistic principles of self-care, which are consistent with educational and clinical goals. The modified version of the illness-wellness continuum model can serve as the groundwork that prepares nursing students in a constantly changing workplace.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of Christianity on Chinese nursing ethics. This documentary research used content analysis to investigate Christian value trends over 13 years (1920-1932) as reflected in a major bilingual Chinese nursing journal.

Exploring clinical judgment ability in second-degree baccalaureate of science nursing students: A mixed methods study.

Background: As they have not yet embarked on clinical practice, most students who already have a bachelor's degree but require a bachelor's degree in nursing occasionally perceive the educator's instruction on clinical situations as abstract and challenging for making accurate clinical judgments.

Association of Measures of Glucose Metabolism with Colorectal Cancer Risk in Older Chinese: A 13-Year Follow-up of the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study-Cardiovascular Disease Substudy and Meta-Analysis.

Backgruound: Abnormal glucose metabolism is a risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC). However, association of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) with CRC risk remains under-reported. We examined the association between glycemic indicators (HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin, 2-hour glucose, 2-hour insulin, and homeostasis model of risk assessment-insulin resistance index) and CRC risk using prospective analysis and meta-analysis.

Comparative Study Between Associate Degree Nursing and Bachelor of Science Students for Adopting Case-Based Learning in Medical-Surgical Nursing.

Introduction: Despite the important gains of using case studies to engage and enhance student learning, research documenting student satisfaction of using online case studies is limited, especially a comparison between Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs. Comparisons in perception of enhanced learning using online case-based studies were explored between students enrolled in ADN and BSN programs during medical-surgical courses as case-based learning can be used to support clinical decision making when clinical placements are lacking.

Methods: A survey was administered during medical-surgical classes for 110 BSN students and 79 ADN students.

The role of confirmatory tests in the diagnosis of primary aldosteronism.

Confirmatory tests for diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (PA) play an important role in sparing patients with a false-positive aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR) screening test from undergoing invasive subtyping procedures. We recommend that patients with a positive ARR test should undergo at least one confirmatory test to confirm or exclude the diagnosis of PA before directly proceeding to subtype studies, except for patients with significant PA phenotypes, including spontaneous hypokalemia, plasma aldosterone concentration >20 ng/dL plus plasma renin activity below a detectable level. Although a gold standard confirmatory test has not been identified, we recommend that saline infusion test and captopril challenge test, which were widely used in Taiwan.

Association of novel and conventional obesity indices with colorectal cancer risk in older Chinese: a 14-year follow-up of the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study.

Background: Visceral adiposity index (VAI) and a body shape index (ABSI) were newly developed indices for visceral fat mass. Whether they are superior to conventional obesity indices in predicting colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unclear. We examined the associations of VAI and ABSI with CRC risk, and investigated their performance in discriminating CRC risk compared with conventional obesity indices in the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study.

Effects of PPAR-γ and RXR-α on mouse meibomian gland epithelial cells during inflammation induced by latanoprost.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of latanoprost on the secretion of cytokines and chemokines from meibomian gland epithelial cells, and to evaluate the modulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) and retinoid X receptor α (RXR-α) during latanoprost-induced inflammation. Mouse meibomian gland epithelial cells were cultured in proliferation and differentiation medium, respectively. Cells were exposed to latanoprost, rosiglitazone (PPAR-γ agonist), or LG100268 (RXR-α agonist), respectively.

Background and Objectives: The living environment can manifest physiological responses in humans, with cohabiting couples often having similar health statuses. The aim of this study was to (1) examine the prevalence of the overactive bladder (OAB) with or without incontinence and (2) identify associated factors for OAB with and without incontinence (including environmental factors, such as living with a partner who has OAB) in middle-aged women. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Overactive Bladder (ICIQ-OBA) was administered to 970 couples.

Methods: Patients with kidney disease were enrolled from August 2019 to December 2020 to automatically screen and order HCV antibody and RNA testing in outpatient departments.

A Novel Rabbit Dry Eye Model Induced by a Controlled Drying System.

Purpose: To establish an environment-induced dry eye model in rabbits using a controlled drying system (CDS).

Methods: Rabbits were randomly divided into two groups. The rabbits in the dry group were housed in the CDS, in which the relative humidity, airflow, and temperature were controlled at 22% ± 4%, 3 to 4 m/s, and 23°C to 25°C for 14 days.
