Nicotine promotes rooting in leaf explants of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller var. Pusa Ruby). Nicotine at 10(-9) to 10(-3) M concentrations was added to the MS basal medium.

The animal neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) induces rooting and promotes secondary root formation in leaf explants of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller var. Pusa Ruby), cultured in vitro on Murashige and Skoog's medium. The roots originate from the midrib of leaf explants and resemble taproot.

Multiple shoots were initiated after 20 days in stem nodes excised from in vitro grown seedlings of Acacia catechu, on Murashige and Skoog's medium adjuvanted with 1 to 100 microM of N6-benzyladenine (BA). Explants were subcultured on the same medium augmented with 1.5 g l(-1) of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) after 30 days.
