The title compound, 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-formyl-[1, 2, 3] oxadiazol-3-ium-5-olate 5 was synthesized under ultrasonication by formylation of 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-[1, 2, 3] oxadiazol-3-ium-5-olate 4 and characterized by spectral studies. The ultrasonic method of synthesis was found to be simple, ecofriendly, economical, reduces reaction time and gave good yield when compared with traditional methods of synthesis. Anticancer activity of the compounds were tested against 60 human tumor cell lines and compared with standard drug vincristine sulphate.

In continuation of structure activity relationship studies, a panel of fluorine containing sydnones with styryl ketone group 4-[1-oxo-3-(substituted aryl)-2-propenyl]-3-(3-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)sydnones 2a-i, was synthesized as better analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents. The title compounds were formed by condensing 4-acetyl-3-(3-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)sydnone with various substituted aryl aldehydes, characterized by spectral studies and evaluated at 100 mg\kg b.w.

In an attempt to develop effective and safer analgesic anti-inflammatory agents, nine compounds belonging to 4-[1-oxo-3-(substituted aryl)-2-propenyl]-3-(4-methoxyphenyl) sydnones, containing the structural features of mesoionic sydnone and styrylketone, have been designed and synthesized by condensing 4-acetyl-3-(4-methoxyphenyl) sydnone with various substituted aryl aldehydes and characterized by spectral studies. They have been tested for analgesic activity by acetic acid induced writhing in mice and for anti-inflammatory activity by carrageenan induced rat paw edema at 100 mg/kg body weight p.o.

In order to have antibacterial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity in the same molecule, 4-[1-oxo-3- (substituted aryl)-2-propenyl]-3-(4-chlorophenyl) sydnones were synthesized by condensing 4-acetyl-3-(4-chlorophenyl)sydnone with various substituted aryl aldehydes and characterized by spectral studies; 4-acetyl-3-(4-chlorophenyl)sydnone itself, was prepared by acetylation of 3-(4-chlorophenyl) sydnone. The newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities by cup plate and carrageenan induced rat paw edema methods respectively. Some of the compounds showed promising antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities.
