Inhibitory effects of macrofungi on experimental benign prostatic hyperplasia in rats.

Objectives: This study was designed to investigate the protective effects of extract on testosterone-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia in rats.

Materials And Methods: In this study, 60 adult Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into six equal groups, one group served as the normal control, five of the groups were administered subcutaneous testosterone propionate for 28 days to induce benign prostatic hyperplasia, three of the five groups were simultaneously administered three graded doses of extract while one group was administered finasteride as the standard drug and the other left as untreated BPH model group given testosterone propionate only. BPH in the prostate gland was detected through gross appearance, prostate weight, and biochemical and histopathological analyses.

Trypanosomosis of the West African Dwarf (WAD) sheep is often neglected due to emphasis on trypanotolerance. Nevertheless, significant pathological changes may occur in tissues of infected WAD sheep. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the brain, pituitary, and adrenal lesions of (Tbb) and (Tc) infections in WAD rams.

Understanding therapists' perceived determinants of trauma narrative use.

Background: Trauma narratives are a critical, exposure-based component of trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy, yet community therapists rarely use them. Given evidence that intentions to deliver elements of cognitive behavioral therapy vary by component, and that intentions to deliver exposure are the weakest, this study focused specifically on trauma narratives. We drew on a social psychology causal theory (Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB)) and an implementation science framework (the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR)) to glean insight into multilevel influences on trauma narrative use.

A national dialogue on systemic racism has been reinvigorated by the highly publicized deaths of several unarmed Black Americans, including George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. In response, the AACP Board considered how to promote concrete, meaningful action to support its membership in measurably addressing structures and policies that promote racism. In this article, literature on existing frameworks aimed at addressing health inequity on the organizational level are reviewed.

The influence of intranasal (PPR) vaccine administration alone or with phytogenic mucoadhesive delivery system on PPR outbreak outcomes in goats.

This study reports the influence of (PPR) vaccination on the clinico-pathological outcomes of PPR in the face of an outbreak. Twenty-two West African dwarf goats procured for a different study started showing early signs of PPR during acclimatization. In response, PPR vaccine was administered either intranasally with phytogenic mucoadhesive gum (Group A; = 6) or without gum (Group B; = 6); subcutaneously (Group C; = 6) or not vaccinated (Group D; = 4) and studied for 21 days.

Community stakeholder preferences for evidence-based practice implementation strategies in behavioral health: a best-worst scaling choice experiment.

Background: Community behavioral health clinicians, supervisors, and administrators play an essential role in implementing new psychosocial evidence-based practices (EBP) for patients receiving psychiatric care; however, little is known about these stakeholders' values and preferences for implementation strategies that support EBP use, nor how best to elicit, quantify, or segment their preferences. This study sought to quantify these stakeholders' preferences for implementation strategies and to identify segments of stakeholders with distinct preferences using a rigorous choice experiment method called best-worst scaling.

Methods: A total of 240 clinicians, 74 clinical supervisors, and 29 administrators employed within clinics delivering publicly-funded behavioral health services in a large metropolitan behavioral health system participated in a best-worst scaling choice experiment.

Using behavioral insights to design implementation strategies in public mental health settings: a qualitative study of clinical decision-making.

Background: Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based intervention for youth with posttraumatic stress disorder. An important component of TF-CBT is the trauma narrative (TN), a phase in the intervention in which youth are guided to process the memories, thoughts, and feelings associated with their traumatic experience(s). Previous work has shown that TF-CBT clinicians complete TNs with only half of their clients, yet little is known about what determines TF-CBT clinicians' use of TNs.

Evaluation of the mucoadhesive strengths of and gums for possible application in veterinary vaccine delivery: the effect of extraction methods.

This study evaluates the effects of different gum extraction methods on the mucoadhesive strengths of Abelmoschus esculentus (AE) and Irvingia gabonensis (IG) gums and the release of vaccine antigen in vaccine-gum formulations. AE and IG gums were extracted employing previously documented methods with acetone or sodium chloride (NaCl) and either oven-dried or freeze-dried. Gum extracts were analyzed for mucoadhesive strengths using a modified rotational cylinder method on animal mucosa.

Recent studies have shown that people with severe mental illness have a dramatically lower life expectancy than the general population. Psychiatrists have not traditionally been very attentive to or involved with physical health issues and there has been growing emphasis on integrated care for physical and mental health and access to primary care for all members of the population. This paper examines the role of psychiatrists in the provision of primary care to the patients they treat.

Vitamin A dietary supplementation reduces the mortality of velogenic Newcastle disease significantly in cockerels.

This project was undertaken to find ways of reducing mortalities and economic losses due to velogenic Newcastle disease (VND) in areas where the disease is enzootic. Four groups of cockerels of 44 birds each were used for this experiment. The birds in groups 1 and 2 received no dietary vitamin A supplementation, whereas groups 3 and 4 received 300 iu and 600 iu of vitamin A per kilogram of commercial feed, respectively, from 1 week of age till the end of the experiment.

Psychiatry residents' experiences with systems-based practice: a qualitative survey.

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze qualitative data collected during field-testing of an instrument to assess psychiatric residents' experiences with systems-based practice (SBP).

Methods: A total of 237 psychiatry residents from 6 levels of training in 12 different psychiatry residency training programs responded to a 60-item instrument measuring their experiences with SBP during residency. Qualitative techniques adapted from content analysis were used to review narrative responses to open-ended questions on the instrument.

Emergency department utilization among Medicaid beneficiaries with schizophrenia and diabetes: the consequences of increasing medical complexity.

Objective: Individuals with both physical and mental health problems may have elevated levels of emergency department (ED) service utilization either for index conditions or for associated comorbidities. This study examines the use of ED services by Medicaid beneficiaries with comorbid diabetes and schizophrenia, a dyad with particularly high levels of clinical complexity.

Methods: Retrospective cohort analysis of claims data for Medicaid beneficiaries with both schizophrenia and diabetes from fourteen Southern states was compared with patients with diabetes only, schizophrenia only, and patients with any diagnosis other than schizophrenia and diabetes.
