Metallothionein overexpression and resistance to toxic stress.

Metallothionein (MT) protects against the harmful effects of a wide spectrum of stress factors. The most studied of these factors is cadmium, whose toxicity is reduced on sequestration by MT. However, there is poorer consensus in the literature about protection afforded by MT against stressors other than cadmium.
