Radiological features of human papillomavirus-related multiphenotypic sinonasal carcinoma: systematic review and case series.

Purpose: To comprehensively summarize the radiological characteristics of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related multiphenotypic sinonasal carcinomas (HMSCs).

Methods: We reviewed the findings for patients with HMSCs who underwent computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and included nine cases from nine publications that were identified through a systematic review and three cases from our institution. Two board-certified radiologists reviewed and evaluated the radiological images.

S100-stained perineural invasion is associated with worse prognosis in stage I/II colorectal cancer: Its possible association with immunosuppression in the tumor.

Perineural invasion (PNI) is known as a poor prognostic factor in colorectal cancer (CRC). Although histopathological evaluation of PNI is usually conducted on hematoxylin and eosin (HE)-stained sections (HE-PNI), it remains controversial whether PNI can be precisely evaluated only by HE-staining, and its concise mechanisms causing worse prognosis remains elusive. In this study, we examined the impact of PNI evaluated by S-100-immunostaining (S100-PNI) on postoperative mortality in 279 consecutive CRC patients and further investigated its association with the tumor immune microenvironment.

Successful Sirolimus Treatment of Lymphangioleiomyomatosis in a Hepatitis B Virus Carrier.

A 34-year-old woman experiencing shortness of breath was referred to our hospital. The patient was diagnosed with sporadic lymphangioleiomyomatosis based on the observation of bilateral diffuse multiple thin-walled cysts on computed tomography of the chest, chylous effusion, elevated serum vascular endothelial growth factor-D levels and transbronchial biopsy findings. This patient was a hepatitis B virus (HBV) carrier.

Predictive Factors of Nivolumab-induced Hypothyroidism in Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer.

Background/aim: Although immune checkpoint inhibitors play an important role in the therapy of lung cancer, they are associated with various immune-related adverse events and predictive factors of them are unclear. In this study, we investigated predictive factors of nivolumab-induced hypothyroidism which is one of the adverse events in patients with lung cancer.

Patients And Methods: Patients with non-small-cell lung cancer who were administered nivolumab at our hospital between December 2015 and May 2016 were retrospectively enrolled.

Systemic Air Embolism Following Diagnostic Bronchoscopy.

A 51-year-old man was admitted to have a nodule evaluated using chest computed tomography (CT). Shortly after curetting and transbronchial biopsies via bronchoscopy, hypotension, bradycardia, unconsciousness, and left hemiplegia appeared and resolved within one hour. Head CT showed cerebral air embolism.

[Background] Endobronchial tuberculosis (EBTB) is defined as a tuberculosis infection of the tracheobronchial tree and is often misdiagnosed as bronchial asthma or bron- chitis owing to a lack of typical imaging findings. [Aim] The aim of this study was to elucidate the clinical characteristics of EBTB. [Method] We retrospectively studied EBTB patients hos- pitalized at the National Hospital Organization Kinki-chuo Chest Medical Center (Sakai City, Japan) between January 2005 and April 2014.

A case of pulmonary mucoepidermoid carcinoma responding to carboplatin and paclitaxel.

A 59-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with dyspnea and cough. A large polypoid tumor was observed in the lower trachea and bronchoscopic polypectomy was performed using a snare to relieve symptoms. The tumor was diagnosed as a high grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma mainly by the histology of piecemeal specimens obtained by bronchoscopic resection.
