Serine racemase (SR) is an enzyme that catalyses the synthesis of d-serine, an endogenous coagonist for N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-type glutamate receptor in the central nervous system. Our previous study demonstrated that SR was expressed in the epidermis of wild-type (WT) mice but not in SR knockout (KO) mice. In addition, SR immune-reactivity was only found in the granular and cornified layers of the epidermis in WT mice.

A comparison of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin levels on the cheeks of patients with acne vulgaris at the start of the study and at the time of symptom improvement showed a significant decrease. On the other hand, the galectin-7 levels at the time of symptom improvement were significantly higher than those at the start of the study.

This study investigated the moisturizing and antipruritic effects of a topical emollient containing a diethylene glycol/dilinoleic acid copolymer (D/DC) in patients with pruritic senile xerosis.
Methods: This single-blind study involved 50 subjects, aged 50-75 years.
DJ-1 is a multifunctional protein associated with Parkinson's disease and plays a significant role in protecting nerve cells from oxidative stress. DJ-1 is expressed in the skin, although its function there is unknown. In this study, we investigated DJ-1 function in keratinocytes.

MIF plays an essential role in the pathophysiology of skin inflammation. To establish whether the MIF level in the stratum corneum (SC) serves as a marker of the severity of AD lesions, we examined the SC MIF (scMIF) levels in AD patients.
