Article Synopsis
  • Mucosal healing is crucial for ulcerative colitis (UC) management, but symptoms often don't match disease activity.
  • Fecal markers like calprotectin, lactoferrin, and hemoglobin were found to correlate well with both the Mayo endoscopic subscore (MES) and the newer Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity (UCEIS) in UC patients in clinical remission.
  • This study suggests that these fecal markers can be effective tools for monitoring UC, as they also showed significant relationships with magnifying endoscopy (ME) findings.
