It was pointed out in a recent paper that the observed cooling rate of old, cold neutron stars (NS) can provide an upper limit on the transition rate of neutron to mirror neutron (n-n^{'}). This limit is so stringent that it would preclude any discovery of n→n^{'} oscillation in the current round of terrestrial searches for the process. Motivated by this crucially important conclusion, we critically analyze this suggestion and note an interesting new effect present in nearly exact mirror models for n→n^{'} oscillation, which significantly affects this bound.

Violation of Lorentz invariance (VLI) has been suggested as an explanation of the superluminal velocities of muon neutrinos reported by OPERA. In this Letter, we show that the amount of VLI required to explain this result poses severe difficulties with the kinematics of the pion decay, extending its lifetime and reducing the momentum carried away by the neutrinos. We show that the OPERA experiment limits α=(ν(ν)-c)/c<4×10(-6).

If the recently discovered charmonium state X( 3872) is a loosely bound S-wave molecule of the charm mesons D0 D(*0) or D(*0) D0, it can be produced in B-meson decay by the coalescence of charm mesons. If this coalescence mechanism dominates, the ratio of the differential rate for B+ -->D(0) D(* 0)K+ near the D0 D(*0) threshold and the rate for B+ -->XK+ is a function of the D0 D(*0) invariant mass and hadron masses only. The identification of the X( 3872) as a D0 D(*0)/D(*0)D0 molecule can be confirmed by observing an enhancement in the D0 D(*0) invariant mass distribution near the threshold.

We analyze n-n* oscillations in generic models with large extra dimensions in which standard-model fields propagate and fermion wave functions have strong localization. We find that in these models n-n* oscillations might occur at levels not too far below the current limit.
