[Susceptibility of gramnegative carbapenemase-producing bacteria to various group antibiotics].

The study involved 25 isolates of gramnegative carbapenemase-producing bacteria. 17 isolates of Klebsiella pneumonia produced carbapenemase NDM-1 and were highly resistant to cephalosporins (MIC>128 mcg/ml), carbapenems (MIC>16 mcg/ml), aminoglycosides and fluoroquinoiones, while among them 4 isolates preserved susceptibility to azthreonam and all of them were susceptible to tigecycline and polymyxin. 2 isolates of Acinetobacter genomospecies 13 produced NDM-1 and were resistant to all the beta-lactams and amikacin, while preserved susceptibility to gentamicin, co-trimoxazole, tigecycline and polymyxin, the susceptibility to ciprofloxacin being lowered.

[Comparative clinical-economic analysis of antibiotic therapy in pyogenic inflammatory diseases of the lower extremities].

A randomized comparative investigation was carried out in two equal groups of patients with pyo-inflammatory diseases of lower extremities (the total number 50 patients) in order to study effectiveness and tolerance to Netilmycin (1st group) and Gentamycin (2nd group) given in combination with Cefasolin. Clinical symptoms were estimated immediately after operation, in 3, 6 and 10-12 days after it. Bacteriological investigations were fulfilled immediately after operation, in 72 h and in 6-10 days after the beginning of antibacterial therapy.

[A comparative structure-function analysis and molecular mechanism of action of endonucleases from Serratia marcescens and Physarum polycephalum].

Structural and functional characteristics were compared for wild-type nuclease from Serratia marcescens, which belongs to the family of DNA/RNA nonspecific endonucleases, its mutational forms, and the nuclease I-PpoI from Physarum polycephalum, which is a representative of the Cys-His box-containing subgroup of the superfamily of extremely specific intron-encoded homing DNases. Despite the lack of sequence homology and the overall different topology of the Serratia marcescens and I-PpoI nucleases, their active sites have a remarkable structural similarity. Both of them have a unique magnesium atom in the active site, which is a part of the coordinatively bonded water-magnesium complex involved in their catalytic acts.

[The role of cefepime, a 4th-generation cephalosporin, in treating patients with surgical sepsis].

Cefepime (Maxipime) was used in the management of 22 patients at the age of 18 to 73 years with the surgical sepsis syndrome (SAPS > 15). In 16 patients surgical sepsis was due to pancreatitis, appendititis, abdominal wound or trauma or complications after planned surgical interventions on the organs of the abdominal cavity. In the other 6 patients surgical sepsis was due to inflammatory processes in soft tissues after minor trauma.

The results of using recombinant interleukin-2 from yeast for the treatment of patients with the sepsis syndrome are discussed. It is noted that there was a marked immunomodulating effect, the amount of endogenous interleukin-2 increased. The patients' state was shown to become less severe (according to the SAPS criterion), the patients felt better.

Aerobic spore-forming bacteria were isolated from the permafrost of the Kolyma lowland. Two strains of bacilli are shown to produce a relatively large amount of extracellular low-molecular weight alkaline RNases. Complete primary structure of an extracellular low molecular mass ribonuclease of Bacillus thuringiensis was determined using Edman degradation and mass-spectrometry analysis of individual peptides obtained after hydrolysis of the protein by cyanogen bromide and staphylococcal protease. The peptides were isolated and purified by HPLC and denaturing PAGE. The enzyme consists of 109 amino acid residues (Asp 8, Asn 6, Thr 6, Ser 10, Glu 3, Gln 1, Pro 3, Gly 9, Ala 12, Val 7, Ile 7, Leu 7, Tyr 7, Phe 4, His 1, Arg 10, Trp 3 and Lys 5) and has a molecular weight of 12182 Da.
