Background: Dietary choices are inextricably linked to the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD), whereas an optimal dietary pattern to minimize CVD morbidity in high-risk subjects remains challenging.
Methods: We comprehensively assessed the relationship between food consumption frequencies and CVD in 28,979 high-risk subjects. The outcome was defined as the composite of the incidence of major CVD events, including coronary heart disease and stroke.
Formica is a large genus in the family Formicidae with high diversity in its distribution, morphology, and physiology. To better understand evolutionary characteristics of Formica, the complete mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of two Formica species were determined and a comparative mitogenomic analysis for this genus was performed. The two newly sequenced Formica mitogenomes each included 37 typical mitochondrial genes and a large non-coding region (putative control region), as observed in other Formica mitogenomes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTenebrionidae is widely recognized owing to its species diversity and economic importance. Here, we determined the mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of three Tenebrionidae species (, , and ) and performed a comparative mitogenomic analysis to characterize the evolutionary characteristics of the family. The tenebrionid mitogenomes were highly conserved with respect to genome size, gene arrangement, base composition, and codon usage.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFGrassland caterpillars (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: ) are important pests in alpine meadows of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). These pests have morphological, behavioral, and genetic adaptations for survival in high-altitude environments. However, mechanisms underlying high-altitude adaptation in QTP species remain largely unknown.

To better understand the diversity and evolution, we newly determined mitogenomes of ten RTA species from six families and performed a comparative mitogenomics analysis by combining them with 40 sequenced RTA mitogenomes available on GenBank. The ten mitogenomes encoded 37 typical mitochondrial genes and included a large non-coding region (putative control region).

However, the systematic analysis of potential functions of eRNAs-related genes (eRGs) in colon cancer (CC) remains unexplored. In this study, a total of 8231 eRGs including 6236 protein-coding genes and 1995 lncRNAs were identified in CC based on the multiple resources.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLeft-sided colon cancer (LCC) and right-sided colon cancer (RCC) have distinct characteristics in tumor immune microenvironment (TIME). Although existing studies have shown a strong association between gene mutations and TIME, whether the regulatory mechanisms between gene mutations and TIME are different between RCC and LCC is still unclear. In this study, we showed the fractions of CD8+ T cells were higher while those of regulatory T cells were lower in RCC.

Purpose: Circular RNAs are novel endogenous RNAs, which are considered to play a role in tumorigenesis. Nevertheless, the role as well as clinical diagnostic value of most circular RNAs in colorectal cancer are still unclear.
Materials And Methods: We investigated the circular RNA microarray containing expression profiles in samples of colorectal cancer patients by bioinformatics.
The CRISPR/Cas system has stood in the center of attention in the last few years as a revolutionary gene editing tool with a wide application to investigate gene functions. However, the labor-intensive workflow requires a sophisticated pre-experimental and post-experimental analysis, thus becoming one of the hindrances for the further popularization of practical applications. Recently, the increasing emergence and advancement of the methods play a formidable role to support and boost experimental work.

Background: is a member of the Kruppel-like factor, subfamily of zinc finger proteins that are involved in cancers. functions as a transcription factor and regulates the diverse protein-coding genes (PCGs) in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulated by in CRC are currently unknown.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLung cancer has been the focus of attention for many researchers in recent years for the leading contribution to cancer-related death worldwide, in which lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common histological type. However, the potential mechanism behind LUAD initiation and progression remains unclear. Aiming to dissect the tumor microenvironment of LUAD and to discover more informative prognosis signatures, we investigated the immune-related differences in three types of genetic or epigenetic characteristics (expression status, somatic mutation, and DNA methylation) and considered the potential roles that these alterations have in the immune response and both the immune-related metabolic and neural systems by analyzing the multi-omics data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) portal.

CVD prediction is one of the most effective measures for CVD control. In this study, 29930 subjects with high-risk of CVD were selected from 101056 people in 2014, regular follow-up was conducted using electronic health record system.

Moreover, it acts as an essential regulator in various human diseases such as gastric cancer (GC). Nevertheless, the comprehensive regulatory roles and clinical significance of most lncRNAs in GC are not fully understood.

Background: Migrants have long been a disadvantaged group in China's health care system, especially in terms of maternal health care. Many studies have explored the factors associated with a lack of maternal health care and found many determinants, including social, economic, behavioral, and environmental factors. However, studies focusing on factors associated with maternal health care have rarely examined preconception counseling (PCC).

Methods: The Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, Chinese Scientific Journals (VIP), PubMed, Embase and Web of Science databases were searched for English language case-control studies on the relationship between regulatory T lymphocytes and ACLF.The quality of included studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale.
Background: Number of internal rural to urban migrant children in China increased rapidly. The disparity of anemia prevalence among them and children of local permanent residents has been reported, both in big and middle-size cities. There has been no population-based study to explore the associated factors on feeding behaviors in small size cities of China.
