The rational design of efficient electrocatalysts with controllable structure and composition is crucial for enhancing the lifetime and cost-effectiveness of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). PtCo nanocrystals have gained attention due to their exceptional activity, yet suffer from stability issues in acidic media. Herein, an active and highly stable electrocatalyst is developed, namely 3D PtCo@Pt core-shell nanodendrites (NDs), which are formed through the self-assembly of small Pt nanoparticles (≈6 nm).

Article Synopsis
  • Proton-exchange-membrane fuel cells require efficient catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction, and this study introduces a new strategy called "carbon defect anchoring" to create highly efficient PtNi@Pt/C core-shell nanoparticles.
  • These nanoparticles demonstrate exceptional stability with only 1.6% degradation after extensive stability tests, alongside impressive performance metrics for oxygen reduction, achieving mass activity of 1.424 A/mg.
  • The findings align with theoretical predictions from a microkinetic model, emphasizing the importance of combining theoretical design with practical synthesis methods for future catalyst advancements.

Plant tannases (TAs) or tannin acyl hydrolases, a class of recently reported carboxylesterases in tannin-rich plants, are involved in the degalloylation of two important groups of secondary metabolites: flavan-3-ol gallates and hydrolyzable tannins. In this paper, we have made new progress in studying the function of tea (Camellia sinensis) (Cs) TA-it is a hydrolase with promiscuous acyltransferase activity in vitro and in vivo and promotes the synthesis of simple galloyl glucoses and flavan-3-ol gallates in plants. We studied the functions of CsTA through enzyme analysis, protein mass spectrometry, and metabolic analysis of genetically modified plants.

Pearl color is regulated by genetics, biological pigments, and organic matrices and an important factor that influences the pearl economic value. The epigenetic regulation mechanism underlying pearl pigmentation remains poorly understood. In this study, we collected the mantle pallial (MP) and mantle central (MC) of the golden-lipped strain, and MP of the silver-lipped strain of pearl oyster .
