Metagenome analysis of coastal marine habitats of Gujarat, India indicated the presence of twelve novel putative lineages of spirochaetes. Out of which a strain designated JC444 representing a novel putative lineage seven was isolated and characterized based on a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Strain JC444 was helical, Gram-stain-negative, obligate anaerobe, catalase and oxidase negative.

An antibiotic-producing, obligate anaerobic, Gram-stain-negative, catalase- and oxidase-negative strain (JC271T) was isolated from a marine habitat and identified, based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, as a novel member of the family Desulfovibrionaceae. Strain JC231 was isolated from a coastal saline habitat of Gujarat and was identified based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis as a member belonging to the genus Spirochaeta and showed highest sequence similarity (<91 %) with Spirochaeta bajacaliforniensis DSM 16054T and other members of the family Spirochaetaceae. Intensive attempts to culture strain JC231 in pure culture have failed and were associated with only one species of a Desulfovibrio. However, presence of fosmidomycin inhibited the growth of Desulfovibrio sp.

Twelve senior Kundalini (Chakra) meditators were assessed during meditation session and non-meditation or control session using Phenomenology of Consciousness Inventory. The data has been analyzed using structural analysis to measure the altered state of consciousness and the identity state by comparing meditative state with non-meditative state. The structural analysis of pattern of consciousness during the meditative state revealed altered experience in perception (percentile rank PR = 90), meaning (PR = 82) and time sense (PR = 87), while positive affect dimension showed increased joy (PR = 73) and love (PR = 67).
