Patient-oriented education and visual-aid intervention are inadequate to identify patients with potential capsule retention: a prospective randomized study.

The key procedure-related risk with video capsule endoscopy (VCE) is capsule retention, which should be suspected in patients who have not reported capsule passage. The study aims were to determine the frequency of capsule passage visualization and the difference in self-reporting of capsule passage between patients who receive patient-oriented education (POE) and patients who receive POE and a visual aid intervention in the form of a wrist band (WB). This was a prospective randomized study that enrolled patients undergoing VCE.

Primary rhabdomyosarcoma of the pineal gland.

Objectives: To report a case of primary rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the pineal gland in an adult, as well as review the literature on this rare entity.

Methods: The case is compared with previous reports of similar entities, with emphasis on this patient's characteristics and clinical presentation, investigations, and management.

Results: Diagnosis of primary RMS of the pineal gland was based on the presence of strap cells and multinucleated myotube-like structures, as well as tumor cell expression of skeletal muscle markers consistent with myogenic differentiation.

Endoscopic ultrasound in the evaluation of chronic upper abdominal pain of unknown etiology: a retrospective chart review examining the efficacy of EUS in determining a new diagnosis.

Goals: To explore the utility of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) in the evaluation of chronic upper abdominal pain (UAP) of undetermined etiology.

Background: Chronic UAP is a common problem with a challenging diagnosis and management. The role of EUS in the diagnosis of UAP may minimize additional testing; however, few studies describe the percentage of new diagnoses yielded in these patients.

Impact of surgery-radiation interval on locoregional outcome in patients receiving neo-adjuvant therapy and mastectomy.

Delays in the initiation of radiation are increasingly common for medically underserved patients. We evaluated the impact of delay in initiation of postmastectomy radiation (PMRT) in breast cancer patients treated with neo-adjuvant therapy (NAT) in a cohort of medically underserved patients with multiple barriers to timely care. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 248 consecutively treated patients.
