A 64-year-old edentulous woman with a mandibular fracture received a subperiosteal implant for fracture fixation and dental rehabilitation. However, the ball abutments were submerged by the soft tissue because they were too short. Therefore, we designed a connector to lengthen the attachment and achieve adequate stability and retention for the overdenture.

Key Clinical Message: Subperiosteal implants might be the future first-line treatment in patients with compromised alveolar ridges, although the use of proper techniques and pre-surgical imaging is required to ensure treatment success.

Abstract: Severe bone loss puts the success of endosseous implants at risk. This technical report aims to introduce the subperiosteal implants (SPIs) created through additive manufacturing.

Statement Of The Problem: For many years, practitioners have been encountered with dental rehabilitation of atrophic jaws. Among many of alternatives, free iliac graft can be a reasonable and also problematic choice to be accomplished.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the implant survival rate and bone loss in implants inserted in reconstructed jaws with free iliac graft.

Background: Brow lift also known as eyebrow lift was first described in 1919, and since then, many changes have been made in the methods of doing it, although there is still no agreed method of absolute superiority for eyebrow lift. Most previous studies have reported the results generally qualitatively and based on patient or surgeon satisfaction. In this study, by combining two less complicated methods of eyebrow lift, we have evaluated the quantitative results.

Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJDs) are the main musculoskeletal cause of orofacial pain. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of manual therapy and routine treatment compared with routine treatment on pain, maximum mouth opening (MMO), and cervical range of motion (ROM) in patients with the temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD). This study was performed at the biomechanics laboratory of the physiotherapy department of Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Objectives: Doxycycline hyclate is a controlled-release doxycycline polymer which can locally be applied. This study aimed to assess the effects of the prophylactic application of doxycycline hyclate at the implant-abutment interface on the short-term outcomes of implant therapy.

Method And Materials: The present split-mouth randomized clinical trial included 20 subjects who received two mandibular implants bilaterally (40 implants in total).

Shallow lingual vestibule and lack of keratinized attached mucosa are considered risk factors for the long-term success of dental implants. This article describes a modified surgical approach accompanied by a free gingival graft to correct the shallow lingual/buccal vestibule and to increase the keratinized tissue around dental implants.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of application of a recently developed bio-adhesive (Impladhesive) to abutment screw threads on the removal torque value and rotational misfit at the implant-abutment junction. This in vitro study evaluated 20 implant fixtures and 20 straight abutments. Specimens were randomly divided into two groups ( = 10) with/without adhesive application.

Phototherapy with a light-emitting diode (LED) is used in medicine due to its potential bio-stimulatory effects on the human body. However, controversy still exists regarding the efficacy of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and phototherapy with LED. This in vivo study aimed to quantitatively and qualitatively assess the newly formed bone following LED phototherapy of the human maxillary sinuses.

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) and wingless (Wnt) signaling molecules and their antagonists, such as sclerostin and noggin, have been identified to have different effects on bone metabolism. This research intended to evaluate the transcript levels of CTNNB1 (catenin beta 1protein), SOST (sclerostin protein), BMP4 (Bone Morphogenetic Protein 4 protein), and NOG (noggin protein) bone metabolism-related genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from condylar hyperplasia (CH) patients in comparison to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and healthy individuals. PBMCs were separated from blood samples of 10 patients with CH, AS, RA, and 10 healthy controls.

Our patient was a 27-year-old male with a unilateral cleft lip and palate. Considering the mobility of bone segments around the cleft, an implant-supported removable overdenture (obturator) was fabricated, which improved the function and esthetics and led to patient satisfaction. The treatment results are still satisfactory after 5 years of follow-up.

This report presents oral rehabilitation of a maxillectomy patient after cancer surgery by fabricating a prosthesis comprising of a denture and a custom-made magnetic retainer. Herein, we present a case of hemimaxillectomy due to squamous cell carcinoma, which was efficiently rehabilitated with implants. Patient's condition and his profile acceptably improved following rehabilitation.

Full mouth rehabilitation by dental implants is complex in class III patients. Prediction of the outcome of orthognathic surgery in edentulous patients with no dental index or record is challenging. This report describes rehabilitation of an edentulous patient by placement of dental implants after prediction of the outcome of orthognathic correction.

This case report presents a 16-year-old boy with bilateral temporomandibular joint (TMJ) bony ankylosis due to trauma. The patient had undergone several unsuccessful therapeutic surgeries and was experiencing reduced mouth opening, difficulty in eating and speaking, poor oral hygiene, snoring, and depression. Bilateral gap arthroplasty and distraction osteogenesis (DO) were performed.

It is estimated that one-third of the people with refractory epilepsy suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). In a patient presenting with OSA symptoms and epilepsy, removing a portion of the soft palate (uvulopalatoplasty) can be considered the treatment of choice for eliminating the OSA and decreasing the seizures. Here, we report the results of our surgical approach by which the patient's problems completely resolved, and we observed no symptoms of OSA or epilepsy after the surgery.

Reconstruction of a facial defect is a complex modality either surgically or prosthetically, depending on the site, size, etiology, severity, age, and the patient's expectation. The loss of an auricle, in the presence of an auditory canal, affects hearing, because the auricle gathers sound and directs it into the canal. The auricle acts as a resonator to slightly amplify lower frequency sounds and helps to localize sounds, especially in conjunction with the other ear.

Subcondylar fractures are common in the maxillofacial region following direct trauma to the mandibular ramus. The literature is replete with articles written on the treatment of subcondylar fractures, encompassing a plethora of various surgical approaches; however, the best treatment procedure has remained controversial. Such fractures are either treated by open reduction with internal fixation or closed reduction with maxillomandibular fixation.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of alveolar cleft repair using iliac bone and freeze-dried bone allograft (FDBA) in the presence of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF).

Materials And Methods: Patients with unilateral alveolar cleft (n = 32) were randomly allocated to either the iliac plus PRGF group or the FDBA plus PRGF group. CBCT images were obtained before and 6 months after the surgery to assess the regenerated bone volume.

Tapia syndrome is known as a rare complication of airway manipulation, which can occur after any type of surgery under endotracheal general anesthesia. This syndrome is characterized by neurologic deficits involving the hypoglossal (XII) and recurrent laryngeal branch of the vagal nerve (X) that result in the tongue muscle's unilateral paralysis associated with the vocal cord's unilateral palsy. This article describes the first case of Tapia syndrome, which occurred after repair of a fractured zygomatic complex.
