Objective: Serum albumin is used as a marker of acute inflammation. Several studies have addressed the association between serum albumin and clinical outcome in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). While mucosal healing (MH) has been indicated as the therapeutic goal for UC, the association between serum albumin and MH remains unclear.

Successful Alectinib Treatment for Carcinoma of Unknown Primary with Fusion Gene: A Case Report.

Gene alteration in anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) is rare, and the efficacy of ALK inhibitors in the treatment of carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) with alteration remains unclear. The patient was a 56-year-old woman who presented with cervical lymph node swelling. Computed tomography revealed paraaortic, perigastric, and cervical lymph node swelling; ascites; a liver lesion; and a left adrenal mass.

Testicular Temperature and the Effects of Orchiopexy in Infants with Cryptorchidism.

Purpose: Testicular temperature should remain low to maintain optimal function of germ cells; however, information regarding testicular temperature in infants and the effect of cryptorchidism and its correction, including laparoscopic staged Fowler-Stephens orchiopexy (LSFSO), is limited.

Materials And Methods: A total of 82 infants with unilateral palpable cryptorchidism, 24 with nonpalpable testes who underwent unilateral LSFSO and 20 with scrotal hydrocele were included. Ultrasonographic determination of testicular volume and measurement of testicular temperature but not scrotal surface temperature using a Coretemp CTM204 (Terumo, Tokyo) were performed before and 12 months after orchiopexy.

Distribution of genetic alterations in high-risk early-stage cervical cancer patients treated with postoperative radiation therapy.

Somatic genetic alteration analysis was performed for post-hysterectomy high-risk early-stage uterine cervical cancer patients who underwent post-operative radiation therapy. Post-operative radiation therapy was performed for patients with pathological features of pelvic lymph node metastasis, parametrium invasion, or positive vaginal margin, which corresponded to the post-operative high-risk category. DNA was extracted from paraffin-embedded surgical specimens, and 50 somatic hotspot genetic alternations were detected using Ion AmpliSeq Cancer Hotspot Panel.

Here, we aimed to elucidate the impact of ATF1 in spermatogenesis by examining the expression pattern of ATF1 in mice and the effect of ATF1 knockdown in the mouse testes.

Amplification rationale for hearing aids based on characteristics of the Japanese language.

Objective: Hearing aid amplification rationales have typically been developed by using global averages of the long-term average speech spectrum (LTASS) from Western European languages. However, there are few reports on hearing-aid amplification based on acoustic-phonetic characteristics of the Japanese language. This study's objective is to investigate the LTASS for Japanese, and to compare a typical amplification rationale originally developed mainly for Western European languages with an amplification rationale specifically adjusted to the LTASS for Japanese.

Case of pemphigoid vegetans with autoantibodies against the BP180 C-terminal domain and BP230 antigen.

Pemphigoid vegetans is a rare variant of bullous pemphigoid characterized by vegetative and purulent lesions of the groin, axillae, thighs, hands, eyelids, and perioral regions. The clinical features and histological findings of pemphigus vegetans and immunohistochemical characteristics of bullous pemphigoid are shown. An 86-year-old woman presented with vegetative lesions in the vulva and groin, and blisters on the head, neck, axillae, and thighs.

Male infertility is a multifactorial pathological condition that affects half of infertile couples. The majority of cases are categorized as idiopathic, especially in cases of nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). Genome-Wide Chromatin Analysis of FFPE Tissues Using a Dual-Arm Robot with Clinical Potential.

Although chromatin immunoprecipitation and next-generation sequencing (ChIP-seq) using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue (FFPE) has been reported, it remained elusive whether they retained accurate transcription factor binding. Here, we developed a method to identify the binding sites of the insulator transcription factor CTCF and the genome-wide distribution of histone modifications involved in transcriptional activation. Importantly, we provide evidence that the ChIP-seq datasets obtained from FFPE samples are similar to or even better than the data for corresponding fresh-frozen samples, indicating that FFPE samples are compatible with ChIP-seq analysis.

Physiology of Methylotrophs Living in the Phyllosphere.

Methanol is abundant in the phyllosphere, the surface of the above-ground parts of plants, and its concentration oscillates diurnally. The phyllosphere is one of the major habitats for a group of microorganisms, the so-called methylotrophs, that utilize one-carbon (C1) compounds, such as methanol and methane, as their sole source of carbon and energy. Among phyllospheric microorganisms, methanol-utilizing methylotrophic bacteria, known as pink-pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFMs), are the dominant colonizers of the phyllosphere, and some of them have recently been shown to have the ability to promote plant growth and increase crop yield.

Early detection of doxorubicin (DXR)-induced cardiomyopathy (DXR-ICM) is crucial to improve cancer patient outcomes and survival. In recent years, the intraventricular pressure gradient (IVPG) has been a breakthrough as a sensitive index to assess cardiac function. This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of IVPG for the early detection of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction.

Long-Term Prognosis of Patients With Resected Adenocarcinoma In Situ and Minimally Invasive Adenocarcinoma of the Lung.

Introduction: The WHO classification of lung tumors defines adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) and minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA) as cancers with no or limited histologic invasive components. The probability of patients with AIS or MIA being recurrence free for 5 years postoperatively has been found to be 100%. This study aimed to analyze the prognosis of patients with AIS or MIA after more than 5 postoperative years.

Efficacy of trastuzumab deruxtecan in an advanced gastric cancer patient with brain metastasis.

Background: There is no clinical evidence supporting the effectiveness of trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) for treating advanced gastric cancer (AGC) with brain metastasis.

Case Report: This is a case of a 65-year-old man with human epidermal growth factor-2 (HER2)-positive AGC. He was initially treated with capecitabine, cisplatin, and trastuzumab, followed by paclitaxel and ramucirumab, nivolumab, trifluridine and tipiracil, and irinotecan regimens in addition to radiation therapy for brain metastasis.

IL-33 is a chromatin-associated multifunctional cytokine implicated in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD), an inflammatory skin disorder characterized by skin barrier dysfunction. The previous reports show that IL-33 is highly detected in the nucleus of epidermal keratinocytes in AD lesions compared with that in unaffected or normal skin. However, it is unclear whether intracellular IL-33 directly contributes to the pathogenesis of AD.

Comparative Analysis of Genetic Alterations, HPV-Status, and PD-L1 Expression in Neuroendocrine Carcinomas of the Cervix.

Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix (NECC) is a rare and highly aggressive tumor with no efficient treatment. We examined genetic features of NECC and identified potential therapeutic targets. A total of 272 patients with cervical cancer (25 NECC, 180 squamous cell carcinoma, 53 adenocarcinoma, and 14 adenosquamous carcinoma) were enrolled.

For interventional radiology, dose management has persisted as a crucially important issue to reduce radiation exposure to patients and medical staff. This study designed a real-time dose visualization system for interventional radiology designed with mixed reality technology and Monte Carlo simulation. An earlier report described a Monte-Carlo-based estimation system, which simulates a patient's skin dose and air dose distributions, adopted for our system.

Detection of hydroacoustic signals on a fiber-optic submarine cable.

A ship-based seismic survey was conducted close to a fiber-optic submarine cable, and 50 km-long distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) recordings with air-gun shots were obtained for the first time. We examine the acquired DAS dataset together with the co-located hydrophones to investigate the detection capability of underwater acoustic (hydroacoustic) signals. Here, we show the hydroacoustic signals identified by the DAS measurement characterizing in frequency-time space.
