Objectives: To investigate the differences of clinical features, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), MRI findings and response to steroid therapies between patients with optic neuritis (ON) who have myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibodies and those who have seronegative ON.
Setting: We recruited participants in the department of neurology and ophthalmology in our hospital in Japan.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the clinical features and response to steroid therapies of patients with ON.
Catheter ablation is an established treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF). The incidence of major complications related to the procedure is reported to be 4.5%, and delayed cardiac tamponade (DCT) is a rare, although recently recognized, complication.

We report a case with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and Wenckebach second-degree atrioventricular block, in which the S4 was initially misdiagnosed as an S3 on auscultation and later confirmed using a phonocardiogram with an apexcardiogram. Interestingly, the amplitude of the S4 dynamically and regularly fluctuated in proportion to the interval between the S4 and the preceding ventricular contraction.

The analytical methods used in the exercise were enzymatic deconjugation (glucuronidase/sulfatase) followed by solid phase extraction and isotope dilution LC-MS-MS determination (Lab A) and acidic deconjugation followed by liquid-liquid extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry determination (Lab B). A significant difference was found for one of the five samples: lower value was obtained in Lab A.

In the present study, we investigated the availability of radiolabeled DRM106 ((123/125)I-DRM106 [6-iodo-2-[4-(1H-3-pyrazolyl)phenyl]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine]), a compound with sufficient affinity for the synthesis of human Aβ fibrils and satisfactory metabolic stability, as a SPECT ligand in living brains.
Method: The sensitivity of (125)I-DRM106 for detecting Aβ deposition was compared with that of (125)I-IMPY (2-(4'-dimethylaminophenyl)-6-iodo-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine), a well-known amyloid SPECT ligand, by ex vivo autoradiographic analyses in 18-mo-old amyloid precursor protein transgenic mice.

We report three cases of verruciform xanthoma (VX) in male patients aged 82, 88 and 39 years, respectively. The clinical appearance was of a mulberry-like area consisting of small papillae, which is typical of and specific to VX, and the diagnosis were histologically confirmed in all cases. Dermoscopy revealed that each surface papilla contained linear or hairpin vessels, which were surrounded by a marginal whitish rim.

Somatosensory evoked fields were measured in 12 healthy volunteers (6 with the right side as the PCS and 6 with the left side as the PCS) following tongue and hard palate stimulation. Three components were identified over the contralateral (P40m, P60m, and P80m) and ipsilateral [P40m(I), P60m(I), and P80m(I)] hemispheres.

However, examination of the behavior of these bacteria during filtration revealed that they were not associated with Arthrospira cells but with aggregates of exopolysaccharides present in the medium away from the Arthrospira cells. Based on this finding, a rapid and reliable method for preparing axenic trichomes of A.

In this study, we investigated the availability of a radioiodinated imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivative, termed (125)I-DRK092, as single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) ligand for in vivo detection of Aβ deposition. DRK092 showed high binding affinity for either synthetic human Aβ fibrils or brain homogenates from amyloid precursor protein transgenic (Tg) mouse (PS1-ki/JU-Tg2576) and AD patient with a dissociation constant (Kd) of one-digit nM, and excellent brain permeability (peak value of uptake: approximately 0.

To assess the pathological morphology of the web lesion, pouch defect and band lesion, we used two types of angioscopic catheter: blood flow-maintaining type and blood flow-blocking type. Angioscopy revealed a heterogeneous thrombus that contained white organized thrombus, red fragile thrombus and yellowish thrombus.

These movements are regulated by communication between the bilateral cortex and each tongue side. The functional connection between the cortex and tongue was investigated using oscillatory interactions between whole-head magnetoencephalographic (MEG) signals and electromyographic (EMG) signals from both tongue sides during human tongue protrusion compared to thumb data.

In this study, we developed a series of imidazopyridine derivatives as potential imaging agents for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Two of them, compounds DRK092 and DRM106, showed higher affinity for synthetic human Aβ 1-40 fibrils than did the well-known amyloid-imaging agent IMPY.

In this study, the relationship between maternal exposure to pyrethroid insecticides during pregnancy and neonatal thyroid hormone status (free thyroxine (fT4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in whole blood) and birth sizes were explored in 147 mother-neonate pairs in Tokyo. The concentration of 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA) in maternal urine, sampled in the first trimester of gestation, was used for pyrethroid exposure assessment.

Methods: We studied MEG in 73 patients (29 females; aged 1-26years; mean 10.3years) for the clinical diagnosis of epilepsy and for preoperative evaluation.
We investigated effects of severe hypoxia (dissolved oxygen <1 ml l(-1)) on recruitment of mantis shrimp Oratosquilla oratoria in Tokyo Bay. Ten-year field surveys were conducted to examine quantitative relationships in annual mean densities of larvae and juveniles, and spatial distribution of juveniles and severe hypoxia. There was no significant correlation between annual mean densities of larvae and juveniles, suggesting that mortality during larval or juvenile stages varies among years, which might have regulated abundance of young-of-the-year juveniles.

Although the Instant-View M-1 (IV M-1) immunoassay kit is frequently used to screen drugs in laboratories in Japan, basic information about the IV M-1 such as its specificity and reactivity is not available. In this study, we determined the specificity and cross-reactivity of IV M-1 for the detection of benzodiazepine-related drugs and their metabolites in urine.

The archived standard curve shall be produced from three standard curves for three days, following the guidance issued from FDA in 1991, and the evaluation whether the archived standard curves can be applicable to use daily was performed with the recovery rate of the concentrations obtained from the archived standard curves against the true values. The three case studies were prepared: (1) the same person, who prepared the archived standard curves, performed this assay with the standard solutions (repeatability condition with the same tester, at the same facility), (2) the person, who did not prepare the archived standard curves, performed this assay with standard solutions (reproducibility condition with the different tester and dates), (3) the same preparation as (1), but using different three lots of lysates.
