A hypoxic-hyperoxic preconditioning (HHP) may be associated with cardioprotection by reducing endothelial damage and a beneficial effect on postoperative outcome in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Patients ( = 120) were randomly assigned to an HHP and a control group. A safe, inhaled oxygen fraction for the hypoxic preconditioning phase (10-14% oxygen for 10 min) was determined by measuring the anaerobic threshold.

We analyzed the associations of the mechanical strength of dilated ascending aorta wall (intraoperative samples from 30 patients with non-syndromic aneurysms) with tissue MMPs and the cytokine system. Some samples were stretched to break on an Instron 3343 testing machine and the tensile strength was calculated; others were homogenized and the concentrations of MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-7, their inhibitors (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2), and pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines were determined by ELISA. Direct correlations between aortic tensile strength and concentrations of IL-10 (r=0.

Introduction: Effective treatment of patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) is one of the most challenging issues in modern cardiac surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the state of cardiomyocytes and myocardial extracellular matrix, as well as to identify informative markers of an unfavorable prognosis for surgical treatment of ICM.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent surgical treatment of ICM between 2011 and 2018 at a single center.

Background: Impaired cardiac sympathetic activity and mechanical dyssynchrony (MD) are associated with poor prognosis in patients with heart failure (HF) after cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). The study aims to assess the significance of scintigraphic evaluation of cardiac sympathetic innervation and contractility in predicting response to CRT in patients with ischemic and non-ischemic chronic HF.

Methods And Results: The study includes 58 HF patients, who were referred for CRT.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of gated blood pool single-photon emission computed tomography (GBPS) with low-dose dobutamine (LDD) stress test, performed on a single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) camera equipped with cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) solid-state detectors, in assessing of left ventricle (LV) contractile reserve in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM).

Methods: A total of 52 patients (age 59 ± 7.2 years, 47 men and 5 women) with ICM and a control group of 10 patients without obstructive coronary artery lesion underwent GBPS and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) at rest and during LDD stress test (5, 10, 15 µg/kg/min).

Aim      To evaluate the predictive value of indexes of left ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony (MD) as determined by data of electrocardiogram (ECG)-gated myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (ECG-MPS) for prediction of the efficacy of resynchronization therapy (RT) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).Material and methods  This prospective study included 32 patients with nonischemic CHF and standard indications for RT. All patients underwent complete clinical an instrumental examination, including 24-h ECG monitoring and echocardiography (EchoCG).

Hydraulic dilatation is used in everyday cardiac surgical practice for assessment of leak-proofness and prevention of spasm of autovenous shunts. The classical technique envisages manual high-pressure solution injection, which exerts a negative effect on venous conduits and is one of the causes of incompetence of shunts in the postoperative period. Limiting pressure during hydraulic dilatation is necessary to minimize morphological changes and preserve functional viability of venous conduits.

Cardiac PET-derived measurements of myocardial blood flow (MBF) and myocardial flow reserve (MFR) are proven robust indexes of the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). They facilitate the diagnosis of diffuse epicardial and microvascular disease and are also of prognostic significance. However, low availability and high cost have limited their wide clinical implementation.

Aims: To identify an imbalance of cardiac remodeling mediators and monocytes subpopulation in blood, distribution of myocardium macrophages in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICMP).

Methods: The study engaged 30 patients with ICMP, 26 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) without ICMP, 15 healthy donors. Concentrations of TGFβ, MMP-9, MCP-1, galectin-3 were measured in plasma of blood from the coronary sinus and peripheral blood in CHD patients, as well as in peripheral blood in healthy donors, by enzyme immunoassay method.

Rupture of the interventricular septum (MVP) as a complication of acute myocardial infarction is a rare event and associated with high mortality without timely surgical treatment. We present a case of a 68-year-old patient who had an acute myocardial infarc‑ tion with ST-segment elevation complicated by a rupture of MVP. In this article we discusse the difficulties of patient management with this pathology and the problem of choice of treatment tactics.

Improvement of surgical treatment for ischaemic heart disease is one of the main trends in modern medicine. After the operation of coronary bypass grafting, further functioning of blood flow in the grafts largely depends upon its domination over the native blood flow in the target coronary arteries. Therefore, intraoperative diagnosis of functional competence of coronary bypass grafts by means of flowmetry is currently of special importance.
