Objective: To examine the course of interstitial lung disease associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA-ILD) in France on treatment with Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) using the MAJIK-SFR registry.

Methods: Prospective national multicentre observational study identifying patients with RA-ILD from the MAJIK-SFR registry. Pulmonary assessment data were collected at JAKi initiation and follow-up visits (6 months, 12 months and a median of 21 months postinclusion), including chest high-resolution CT (HRCT), pulmonary function tests (forced vital capacity (FVC) and diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO)), acute exacerbations of ILD, respiratory infections and lung cancers.

Halomethoxybenzenes (HMBs) and related halomethoxyphenols are produced naturally in the marine and terrestrial environment and some also have anthropogenic origins. They are relatively volatile and water soluble and undergo atmospheric exchange with water bodies and soil. Here we report air-surface exchange of HMB compounds brominated anisoles and chlorinated dimethoxybenzenes in a Subarctic lake and catchment in Sweden during September 2022.

Further research is needed to refine risk prediction models for adverse cardiovascular outcomes following stroke in contemporary clinical practice, such as incident atrial fibrillation (AF), recurrent stroke, and cognitive impairment and dementia. The aims of this study are to prospectively investigate cardiovascular outcomes and risk factors for incident cardiovascular disease in a post-stroke cohort, and to externally validate, refine and expand current risk prediction models for cardiovascular and cardiovascular-related outcomes. The study sample size was based on the development of post-stroke risk prediction models for AF and was calculated as 1222 participants.

Introduction: Drug retention is particularly relevant to assess long-term treatments. This real-world study mainly aimed to describe 1-year retention rate (RR) of subcutaneously administered tocilizumab (TCZ-SC) in patients with moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: This non-interventional, prospective, multicenter study (NCT02608112) was conducted in patients with RA initiating TCZ-SC treatment, with an 18-month follow-up.

Role of stress in the development of rheumatoid arthritis: a case-control study.

Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to assess the stressful life events preceding the onset of symptoms in RA. The secondary objectives were to assess how early RA patients perceive stress and cope with stressors.

Methods: A case-control study was performed, comparing patients recently diagnosed with RA to age- and gender-matched control subjects recently hospitalized for an unplanned surgical procedure not known to be influenced by stress.

Abatacept monotherapy compared with abatacept plus disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs in rheumatoid arthritis patients: data from the ORA registry.

Background: Retention rate, efficacy, and safety of abatacept (ABA) was compared between patients with rheumatoid arthritis receiving ABA as monotherapy to those in combination ABA + conventional synthetic DMARD (csDMARD).

Methods: The patients were obtained from the ORA registry. The retention rate was analysed in two ways: (1) therapeutic strategy retention, in which the addition of a csDMARD was considered to indicate failure of the monotherapy strategy; and (2) ABA retention, which was assessed by the discontinuation of ABA regardless of other treatment modifications.

Outcomes of emergency nurse-administered digital blocks in a community hospital emergency department.

Introduction: Digital blocks are traditionally performed by physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Procedures manuals emphasize that digital blocks are usually performed by a physician or an advanced practice nurse. In our community hospital, emergency nurses have performed digital blocks according to protocol for the past 30 years without known complications or diminished patient satisfaction.

Objective: To determine whether pimobendan has in vitro antithrombotic properties through inhibition of platelets in canine blood samples.

Animals: 10 healthy adult dogs.

Procedures: Blood samples were collected from each dog into tubes containing hirudin or sodium citrate.

Dose determination of fondaparinux in healthy cats.

Objective: To establish practical doses and administration frequencies of fondaparinux for cats that would approximate human therapeutic peak and trough plasma anti-factor Xa activities for thromboprophylaxis (TP) and thrombosis treatment (TT) protocols.

Animals: 6 healthy adult purpose-bred cats.

Procedures: Dosage protocols for TP and TT were selected on the basis of a single compartment pharmacokinetic model incorporating data from humans but modified to account for the higher body weight-normalized cardiac output of cats.

Nonspecific low back pain: assessment of available medications.

Many medications have been evaluated for the treatment of nonspecific low back pain. The only medications proven to be more effective than a placebo in chronic low back pain are nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the acetaminophen-tramadol combination, antidepressants other than selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and some types of spinal applications of glucocorticoids or local anesthetics. However, the efficacy of these drugs in inducing pain relief is limited, and NSAIDs are the only drugs that also improve function.

[Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome associated with vocal cord carcinoma].

Introduction: Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS) is an autoimmune channelopathy in which patients produce autoantibodies directed against voltage-gated calcium channels. LEMS is paraneoplastic in 50% of patients, most frequently associated with small cell lung carcinoma. We describe a case of paraneoplastic LEMS associated with a vocal cord carcinoma.
