Halomethoxybenzenes (HMBs) and related halomethoxyphenols are produced naturally in the marine and terrestrial environment and some also have anthropogenic origins. They are relatively volatile and water soluble and undergo atmospheric exchange with water bodies and soil. Here we report air-surface exchange of HMB compounds brominated anisoles and chlorinated dimethoxybenzenes in a Subarctic lake and catchment in Sweden during September 2022.

Airborne particulate matter plays an important role in climate change and health impacts, and is generally irregularly shaped and/or forms agglomerates. These particles may be characterized through their light scattering signals. Two-dimensional angular scattering from such particles produce a speckle pattern that is influenced by their morphology (shape and material composition).

Further research is needed to refine risk prediction models for adverse cardiovascular outcomes following stroke in contemporary clinical practice, such as incident atrial fibrillation (AF), recurrent stroke, and cognitive impairment and dementia. The aims of this study are to prospectively investigate cardiovascular outcomes and risk factors for incident cardiovascular disease in a post-stroke cohort, and to externally validate, refine and expand current risk prediction models for cardiovascular and cardiovascular-related outcomes. The study sample size was based on the development of post-stroke risk prediction models for AF and was calculated as 1222 participants.

Objectives: Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) phenotype appears to be dichotomized in systemic or chronic articular forms. As biologicals and particularly interleukin (IL)-1 and IL-6 blockers play a more and more prominent role in the treatment, their place requires clarification. This study aimed to identify factors predictive of treatment response to anakinra or tocilizumab and investigate whether the choice of biotherapy and delays in the initiation of biotherapy influenced the likelihood of steroid discontinuation.

Group living is favorable to pathogen spread due to the increased risk of disease transmission among individuals. Similar to individual immune defenses, social immunity, that is antiparasite defenses mounted for the benefit of individuals other than the actor, is predicted to be altered in social groups. The eusocial honey bee () secretes glucose oxidase (GOX), an antiseptic enzyme, throughout its colony, thereby providing immune protection to other individuals in the hive.

Objective: Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (PDCs) play a central role in pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) through their unique ability to produce large amounts of type I interferon (IFN) upon Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR-7) and TLR-9 triggering. PDCs express specific surface regulatory receptors involved in negative regulation of IFNα secretion. These receptors use the γ-chain of high-affinity Fc receptor (FcR) for IgE, FcɛRI.

Background: Retention rate, efficacy, and safety of abatacept (ABA) was compared between patients with rheumatoid arthritis receiving ABA as monotherapy to those in combination ABA + conventional synthetic DMARD (csDMARD).

Methods: The patients were obtained from the ORA registry. The retention rate was analysed in two ways: (1) therapeutic strategy retention, in which the addition of a csDMARD was considered to indicate failure of the monotherapy strategy; and (2) ABA retention, which was assessed by the discontinuation of ABA regardless of other treatment modifications.

Many medications have been evaluated for the treatment of nonspecific low back pain. The only medications proven to be more effective than a placebo in chronic low back pain are nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the acetaminophen-tramadol combination, antidepressants other than selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and some types of spinal applications of glucocorticoids or local anesthetics. However, the efficacy of these drugs in inducing pain relief is limited, and NSAIDs are the only drugs that also improve function.
