SK Forceps: New Monopolar Electrosurgical Forceps Designed Specifically for Blepharoptosis Surgery.

The electrode tips of conventional monopolar forceps are relatively blunt, complicating the delicate detachment manipulations required for blepharoptosis repair. This study describes the SK forceps, which is a new monopolar electrosurgical forceps we specifically designed for blepharoptosis surgery. The electrode tips in our design were engineered to be as fine as possible.

Corneal thickness in the case of familial lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase deficiency.

Purpose: We report our findings of a patient with a definitive diagnosis of familial lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase deficiency (FLD), whose corneal thickness was measured using swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT) and who underwent an ophthalmologic therapeutic intervention.

Observations: The patient was a 78-year-old Japanese man diagnosed with FLD at the age of 52 years. This was his first ever visit to an ophthalmology clinic.

Course of the vertical portion of the lower lacrimal canaliculus.

The nomenclature of each part of the lacrimal canaliculus, for example the vertical portion, does not always reflect the true course. Since we have sometimes observed findings suggesting the so called vertical portion of the lower lacrimal canaliculus inclined laterally, we re-examined the course of the vertical portion. Twenty-eight postmortem lower eyelids in 16 Japanese were examined and divided into 2 groups.

This study aimed to examine the rate of symptomatic improvement of congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO) in Japanese infants treated with conservative management within the 1st year of age. Thirty-five lacrimal ducts in 27 patients diagnosed with CNLDO were included in the study. During the observational period, lacrimal ducts were massaged.

[Two cases of dermolipoma].

Background: Dermolipoma is an uncommon benign tumor, congenitally occurring on the conjunctiva, and may be present at other sites. The appearance of dermolipoma closely resembles orbital fat prolapse and limbal dermoid, and therefore it is necessary to take this into account in diagnosis. Postoperative complications such as blepharoptosis, diplopia, or keratoconjunctivitis sicca can develop.

Posterior layer advancement of the lower eyelid retractor in involutional entropion repair.

Purpose: To examine effectiveness of posterior layer advancement of the lower eyelid retractor in involutional entropion repair.

Methods: Fifty lower eyelids (30 right and 20 left, average patient age 75.5 years) of 43 patients with involutional entropion underwent surgery.

Histological analysis of the lower-positioned transverse ligament.

The lower-positioned transverse ligament (LPTL) had been thought to run parallel to the junction between the orbital septum and the levator aponeurosis (junction). However, its true course was disclosed as crossing the junction. Since earlier histological studies were undertaken before the precise course was elucidated, it was uncertain whether the true LPTL was adequately disclosed.

Linear Basal cell carcinoma in an asian patient.

Linear basal cell carcinoma (BCC), which has a ratio of its long and short axes of more than 3: 1, is a distinct clinical entity among BCC. We report the first case report of a linear BCC in an Asian patient. An 87 year-old woman presented with an ulcerated black nodule, 15x5mm (3: 1), on her nasojungal fold of the right lower eyelid.
