Introduction: Solitary cavernous lymphangioma is very rare disease characterized by abnormally proliferating lymphatic vessels. We report a 49-year-old woman with a cavernous pulmonary lymphangioma showing rapid growth after remaining indolent for 10 years.

Presentation Of Case: Chest computed tomography revealed a solitary, poorly demarcated mass in the left lower lobe; however, the tumour grew in size over the next 6 months.

The influence of American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status on patient morbidity and survival after total thyroidectomy.

In cases of thyroid papillary carcinoma, a less aggressive cancer, surgeons may hesitate to perform total thyroidectomy on patients with poor general condition because these may experience longer survival without undergoing surgery. To investigate the influence of general patient condition on the patients' survival who received total thyroidectomy, we utilized the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status (ASA-PS). We retrospectively reviewed all patients undergoing total thyroidectomy under general anesthesia and graded by ASA-PS between 2004 and 2014.

Desi-type chickpeas, which have long been used as a natural treatment for diabetes, have been reported to lower visceral adiposity, dyslipidemia and insulin resistance induced by a chronic high-fat diet in rats. In this study, in order to examine the effects of chickpeas of this type in an in vitro system, we used the 3T3-L1 mouse cell line, a subclone of Swiss 3T3 cells, which can differentiate into cells with an adipocyte-like phenotype, and we used ethanol extracts of chickpeas (ECP) instead of chickpeas. Treatment of the 3T3-L1 cells with ECP led to a decrease in the lipid content in the cells.

Signature of Wave Chaos in Spectral Characteristics of Microcavity Lasers.

We report an experimental investigation on the spectra of fully chaotic and nonchaotic microcavity lasers under continuous-wave operating conditions. It is found that fully chaotic microcavity lasers operate in single mode, whereas nonchaotic microcavity lasers operate in multimode. The suppression of multimode lasing for fully chaotic microcavity lasers is explained by large spatial overlaps of the resonance wave functions that spread throughout the two-dimensional cavity due to the ergodicity of chaotic ray orbits.

Addition of cilostazol to aspirin therapy for secondary prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: A randomized, open-label trial.

Background: Patients with established coronary artery disease are at increased risk for future ischemic events and require secondary prevention for systemic vascular disease. We performed a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the impact of cilostazol on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.

Methods: A total of 514 patients who had undergone coronary stent implantation >6 months previously and were thought to no longer need dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin and a thienopyridine were randomly assigned to receive aspirin plus cilostazol therapy or aspirin therapy alone after discontinuation of thienopyridine therapy.

In contrast, core needle biopsy (CNB) has a higher sensitivity and lower rate of sampling errors but has a higher risk of injury to adjacent organs such as facial nerve than FNAC. Screening of patients with parotid gland tumors to identify cases of pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and Warthin tumor (WT) may allow CNB to be confined to patients without PA and WT.

Dysfunction in the central serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) systems cause depression and pain. Descending spinal pain modulatory pathways are important in the analgesic mechanisms of antidepressants, particularly serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). While many non-clinical studies have demonstrated the roles of central monoaminergic systems in pain, there is little evidence to illuminate the direct contribution of spinal descending pain modulatory systems independently of depressive-like behavior.

Objective: To investigate the McGurk effect in profoundly deafened Japanese children with cochlear implants (CI) and in normal-hearing children. This was done to identify how children with profound deafness using CI established audiovisual integration during the speech acquisition period.

Methods: Twenty-four prelingually deafened children with CI and 12 age-matched normal-hearing children participated in this study.

Experimental Observation of Resonance-Assisted Tunneling.

We present the first experimental observation of resonance-assisted tunneling, a wave phenomenon, where regular-to-chaotic tunneling is strongly enhanced by the presence of a classical nonlinear resonance chain. For this we use a microwave cavity made of oxygen free copper with the shape of a desymmetrized cosine billiard designed with a large nonlinear resonance chain in the regular region. It is opened in a region, where only chaotic dynamics takes place, such that the tunneling rate of a regular mode to the chaotic region increases the line width of the mode.

Application of Buttonhole Cannulation Technique to Surgically Superficialized Arteries.
