The culture filtrate extract of the golden bootleg mushroom showed strong antifungal effects, leading to the isolation of two new sesquiterpenoid compounds, with respective molecular weights of 234 and 259.
Mass spectrometry confirmed these compounds, named phaeolep aldehydes A and B, featured an aldehyde group, with phaeolep aldehyde B also having a cyanohydrin group.
Phaeolep aldehyde A inhibited the growth of several fungi at a dosage of 10 ppm, while phaeolep aldehyde B showed even stronger activity, reducing spore germination of one fungal species by 58.2% at just 0.25 ppm.
